D&D 5E (2024) What type of ranger would your prefer for 2024?

I take on it, is that going into the wild is just a high Survival skill. And a lot of what I see people wanting a magic-less ranger to do sounds an awful lot like magic to me. Talking birds and animals into scouting for you? How is that not magic? I guess what I’m saying @Emberashh, is that I...

D&D 5E (2024) What type of ranger would your prefer for 2024?

I chose Spellcasting. Rangers have had magic in some form or other for so long, I feel like it’s part of their identity. And, although I hate to be the first to say it, you all know someone is going to: If I wanted a Magic-less Ranger, I can easily do so with a Fighter with the right...

    D&D 5E (2024) How is Flex still a thing?

Well, maybe because we all don't agree on how utterly terrible it is? Either way, if you did want to add something to the two-handed version, it would have to be equally simple. Add +1 damage to Critical Hits when used Two-handed. There. At the very least, it would have to be always-on...

    D&D 5E (2024) How is Flex still a thing?

Other people have pointed this out, but I think you and others are missing the point. Sometimes simple (ie. boring) is a strength all on it's own. Mechanically, it's not as strong as some others. But there is a huge advantage to having an always-on ability you don't have to think about. Two...

    D&D 5E (2024) Next Playtest Packet?

What are you planning to replace it with for Fighters and such?

    D&D 5E (2024) Next Playtest Packet?

I’m so happy to hear about weapon masteries. It’s been my favourite thing in the playtests so far, and as someone who tends towards martial classes, I can’t wait to take them for a spin.

    D&D Movie/TV D&D Movie Hit or Flop?

Hasbro put up a large chunk of the budget. I don’t remember the exact figure right now, but it was a t least half.

D&D General JMISBEST's questions. Most of them about campaign ideas that either he or A GM he knows has and wants to know what people think

I didn’t even realize it was a specific property. I thought it was just the campaign description. Oh well, I’m sure my thoughts were boring anyway…:)

D&D General JMISBEST's questions. Most of them about campaign ideas that either he or A GM he knows has and wants to know what people think

Definitely would be an interesting take. In fact, I’ve seen at least one movie that was basically that exact plot (name withheld due to spoilers).

D&D General JMISBEST's questions. Most of them about campaign ideas that either he or A GM he knows has and wants to know what people think

Why are you so sure they would be judged by the actions of their past lives? The people they were are long dead and buried. It’s not like they’re the same people, but with amnesia or something. With that scenario, you could get some traction. If the past lives are truly dead, and the people...

    Where does True20 break?

Based on someone else’s home brew character sheet based on those rules, it seems I may have changed the number of checkboxes. No idea which version is closer to Baduin’s. True20/MM Static Toughness, Roll Damage

    Where does True20 break?

I posted this to your message on RPG.net, and I’m adding it here in case anyone else was interested. I do have a version of what I think was the rules you are talking about. However, I dug this out of an email I sent to my players in 2007, so I’m not sure if this is the original Baduin rules...

D&D 5E (2024) Do you see Fighter players at your own table?

Alright. I still question how you're sure they represent most groups. But I think we're at an 'agree to disagree' point. Thanks for taking the time to explain your point, though. I do appreciate it.

D&D 5E (2024) Do you see Fighter players at your own table?

It reflects how you are playing the game. I still maintain that if a group is using the official milestone rules in one of the published adventures, it's no guarantee. We might have been able to do it in SKT if we bee-lined for what turned out to be a milestone. But we ended up splitting our...

D&D 5E (2024) Do you see Fighter players at your own table?

That of course works, but it goes contrary to official adventure Milestone guidelines. They quite clearly state that the party gets to level up once they achieve a certain objective, or reach a specific moment in the story. The DM can of course add in as many encounters they want, and throw...

D&D 5E (2024) Do you see Fighter players at your own table?

All well and good. However there’s been a move away from XP levelling to milestone. Which changes things around dramatically. When doing SKT (for example), I swear we wandered all over the place and probably spent way more time in between milestones than if we had been following the plot more...

D&D 5E (2024) Do you see Fighter players at your own table?

We definitely couldn’t do 4 encounters a night. Like I said, we only got 2 hours. Add in role-playing, exploration, and general non-combat story, and we were lucky to get in two. And we certainly couldn’t count on playing every week. We did our best, but there were just weeks when life got...

D&D 5E (2024) Do you see Fighter players at your own table?

Just wanted to pop in and say that 5e campaigns can definitely last years. In the campaign where I was the non-magical fighter, we started at level one (with Phandelver) and made it to level 11 (near the end of SKT) when we stopped. And it was at least 18 months. We're all adults with...

D&D General A friend of mine has joined A 5E Dnd Group, has decided to play A Robin Hood Style character and wants to know what people think of his character

Also, this is really between him and his DM. I really doubt any conclusion this message board comes to will change anything. I highly doubt the DM is going to take our opinions into account…

D&D General A friend of mine has joined A 5E Dnd Group, has decided to play A Robin Hood Style character and wants to know what people think of his character

Why would it? The fact that someone was once a good guy, doesn’t change the fact he is currently a villain. No one gets a pass based on who they used to be. They’re judged on their current acts.
