    D&D 5E (2014) 15 Petty Reasons I Won't Buy 5e

I think your premise is false. You can very well have petty reasons for not doing something even when there is no duty to do that thing. Nobody has a duty to wear green, but if I say that I refuse to wear green because a guy who wore green looked at me funny once and now I hate green clothes...

D&D General Who else owned the Official D&D Soundtrack from Midnight Syndicate?

I still regularly use it for my D&D games. I think it works quite well as background and combat music.

Level Up (A5E) How to reach 20th Level in 45 days — An analysis of "adventuring day" per character level

I get the feeling, absolutely. But in the end, even with the sped-up progression, every level lasts at least an adventuring day. I think what you're supposed to do around that time is to add much more downtime between each adventure. That way, your high-level PCs still spend a lot of time...

Level Up (A5E) How to reach 20th Level in 45 days — An analysis of "adventuring day" per character level

Except designers have continuously said that the game's sweet spot is levels 5-10, and I'm pretty sure we can find an article from D&D Next playtest that shows that this was intentional if we dig hard enough.

Level Up (A5E) How to reach 20th Level in 45 days — An analysis of "adventuring day" per character level

But it's not out of whack. It's intended. You're intended to breeze through later levels because the game gets too complicated for a prolonged campaign, but you want people to to see the reality-bending powers of Tier 4. I mentioned it earlier in the thread.

D&D 5E (2014) How often do your 5e sessions end with a Long Rest for the party?

I try to end a session when the story is also winding up, so long rests tend to be good for that (especially if it's right before a level up in which case there's downtime as well). But I've never finished a game mid-combat, and I think that's one of the worst things a GM can ever do.

Level Up (A5E) Planestrider: Choose A Page And I'll Post It!

I mean this sincerely, I'm interested in what the Content Warning on page 9 is for. On the one hand, it's good practice but on the other I'm curious as to what the warned content could be.

D&D 5E (2014) Proposed House Rules for Supplies

I tried similarly complex rules for my 5e campaign, but if your characters don't like the bookkeeping for regular camp supplies, they provably won't like these rules either. Have you considered looking at how Level Up does supplies as well? I think it's close to what you're going for, but a...

    Is TTRPGing an "Expensive Hobby"

It really depends on how you're playing, IMO. If you just take the core SRDs for your system of choice and some pen and paper, the only thing you'll probably need are the dice, which can be pretty cheap. But if you want to get the special edition boxed sets of your system, deluxe referee...

AI in Gaming (a Poll) [+]

I did add the caveat that the AI needs to be trained ethically, mind you. So in the case I'm talking about, there wouldn't be stealing. Or are you saying that people scraping Pinterest to use the images in their personal campaigns is stealing?

How long should a gaming session be?

For me, I feel like 3-4 hours is necessary for any meaningful story progress to be made. However I know that for some people (especially those with ADHD) that can be too long, so I try to compensate by having 5-10 minute breaks every hour or so. I've had some games last 5-6 hours, especially...

AI in Gaming (a Poll) [+]

I was going to say using image generation for personal campaigns is fine, but the option was for commercial use of generative AI. That'd just be an excuse to put artists out of their business ASAP, so I didn't select that. But I feel like using generative AI to create character faces/room images...

D&D 5E (2014) Vecna: Eve of Ruin Coming May 21st!

Who's the replacement that left after Spelljammer? I thought Crawford and Perkins became the chief rules architects, which is the equivalent to Mearls's role as Lead Game Designer until Tasha's.

D&D 5E (2014) Vecna: Eve of Ruin Coming May 21st!

Any idea what the sigils on the alternate back cover might be teasing? There's Bhaal's holy symbol (BG3 was a big hit, so no surprise there), the bottom one in the centre looks like a Planescape faction logo, but none that I know of, and the upper right in the centre I've got no idea about. The...

    D&D 5E (2014) Foundry Gets Official D&D Support

While Basic Rules are available for personal use from WotC's website, I don't think they're avaliable for commercial use like the SRD. So they really couldn't unless they got permission from WotC to do it (which they probably wouldn't bother to while trying to get a deal for selling the whole...

D&D 5E (2014) What, if anything, bothers you about certain casters/spells at your table?

Animate Objects is a big annoyance to me, mostly because it grinds the game to a hold because its most optimal version is animating 8 tiny objects. I think the Level Up version of the spell went too far in the other direction though and made the spell too weak.

D&D General Joe Manganiello: Compares Early 5E to BG 3 . How Important is Lore?

Hamlet is a retelling of the father avenging storylines, and specifically the Germanic tale of Amleth, that existed for a few centuries before Shakespeare wrote his version. Tolkien's Legendarium is essentially a reimagining of various Nordic and European folk tales doused in heavy Catholic and...

D&D General Joe Manganiello: Compares Early 5E to BG 3 . How Important is Lore?

Sure, mob mentality is a well-understood phenomenon, and social media usually aggravates this issue. But in this particular case (in light of the more recent evidence @Dausuul brought up earlier), it's clear this isn't what happened. And honestly, I think on aggregate, the amount of damage...

D&D General Joe Manganiello: Compares Early 5E to BG 3 . How Important is Lore?

To me, the information you provided here is pretty strong proof that Mearls grossly mismanaged the situation, and the recently revealed facts about Zak's actions also fall in line with the alleged abuse. So again, it seems pretty insensible to shrug off what happened as "the Twitter mob...

D&D General Joe Manganiello: Compares Early 5E to BG 3 . How Important is Lore?

Well, if that's the case, deciding to publicly defend the person and handle the situation without any of the sensitivity it would require is still not a good sign of public-facing leadership. Not to mention the fact that he still has not treated the topic in any meaningful way since the initial...
