Doctor Who 60th Anniversary Specials [[SPOILERS!!]]

I heard about these too. There's one very specific and nerdy way they could go with this idea that would be really cool, I think. But otherwise if the leaks prove to be correct, I'm afraid Doctor Who will forevermore live under the shadow of one specific guy and I really dislike that idea.

D&D 5E (2014) No One Plays High Level?

So far, I've finished two long term 5e campaigns, where one ended at Level 20 and the other at Level 18. For me, high level support is a big deal. When I run games, reaching beyond level 12 is not a lofty goal but something I actively encourage. So the game meaningfully supporting high levels...

WotC WotC Removes Release Dates From Promo Images For 2024

They seem to have reposted all the announcements without any fixed dates, and the Core Rulebook image only promises the PHB for 2024 now. I'm guessing they were not supposed to share the dates, and they certainly weren't supposed to imply that all 3 rulebooks were coming at the same time.

Level Up (A5E) What's Your Unofficial Errata?

Sorry if I came across as too aggressive. That wasn't my intention!

Level Up (A5E) What's Your Unofficial Errata?

Eh, I chalk it to a difference in playstyles. I don't think they're annoying, and I do think it's a bit presumptous of you to call them that when you don't know our table dynamics, but different people have different playstyles and we came up with a crafting system that makes everyone happy, so...

D&D 4E Ben Riggs' "What the Heck Happened with 4th Edition?" seminar at Gen Con 2023

I think this might also be tied to people being already tired of 2e (the 90s essentially being a time of glut due to splatbook fatigue, Magic/Vampire taking away players and AD&D 2e being seen as "that old game nobody plays anymore", from what I understand) when 3e was coming out. While 3.5 did...

D&D 4E Ben Riggs' "What the Heck Happened with 4th Edition?" seminar at Gen Con 2023

Consider this: Maybe we don't get to decide what is insulting for a person? Something that feels completely normal to you may be insulting to them, and if that's the case, I think it's both unhelpful and incredibly bad manners to go "This isn't insulting, stop feeling insulted!" I didn't really...

D&D 5E (2014) How should summon spells be factored in the encounter math?

I mean, you're not wrong about 5E not having an encounter math... But I did backport Level Up's encounter math to 5E :P I did consider the idea about counting summons as a new monster (essentially like temporary sidekicks), but that bothers me in a different way. If there are guides on how to...

D&D 5E (2014) How should summon spells be factored in the encounter math?

So I've been delving back into 5E's fundamental math for a bit, and the summon spells (all different variations of it) have me stumped. When it comes to calculating a spell's power level, 5E's fundamental math is of some help. We know there is a certain ratio in each monster's hit points, attack...

The "I Didn't Comment in Another Thread" Thread

I'm a few days late, but are people in the forums familiar enough to make extremely personal and judgemental comments about what someone should or shouldn't do? Or are some people such massive wangrods that they'd put their nose into how other people they don't know should spend their hobby time?

D&D General BG3 Massive Spoiler Thread

I found all the mods I'm using over at NexusMods, and they all have instructions on how to install each one. The ones I've got are: -Mod Fixer (I think this is necessary for any mod to work) -Native Mod Loader (this is also needed for the other mods) -Achievement Enabler (this allows me to...

D&D General BG3 Massive Spoiler Thread

I have to respectfully disagree. Leaving aside the decades of technical advancements that BG 1 & 2 can't hope to compete with, BG3 is just a better adaptation of the D&D ruleset to the computer. The amount of freedom you have in solving problems just cannot be compared with, and that's what...

OSR Fulfilling the Modularity Promise: Suggestions for an OSE Neo-Fantasy Genre Book [+]

This is a brilliant idea! Make it a wand of cantrips of some sort, and people who dislike it can just not give it to their casters!

The Hasbropocalypse? What's going on? I couldn't a thread about anything.

OSR Fulfilling the Modularity Promise: Suggestions for an OSE Neo-Fantasy Genre Book [+]

This is all great advice! For some of the neo-fantasy options, I'm actually lucky in that there are official OSE versions: I think Carcass Crawler #3 has both the Tiefling and the Dragonborn, for instance. Good point about reducing power levels like OSE Advanced did. I don't necessarily want...

OSR Fulfilling the Modularity Promise: Suggestions for an OSE Neo-Fantasy Genre Book [+]

Please note that this is a [+] thread. If you think it is impossible to represent D&D 5E's flavour within the OSE framework, you're entitled to your opinion. However, what I really want to do here is to discuss how such a representation could be done with people who think it's possible. I've...

D&D General Is DnD being mothballed?

Yeah, I feel like a lot of the delay in publication is also related to shipping/problems since 2020, and the number of books released has steadily increased since 5e's release. Thing is, I respect Matt as a fairly experienced DM who gives good DMing advice... And that's about it. I haven't...

Level Up (A5E) LU Strongholds or D&D Bastions?

I've only taken a quick peek at the bastion rules, but from what I see: LU Strongholds are better money sinks. With Bastions, you only pay a pretty small sum for "basic" rooms, which are cosmetic. The rest you either automatically "earn" when you gain a level, or spend Bastion Points (I think...

    OSR Why B/X?

Snarf, I gotta ask you something since you seem to know your stuff far better than I ever could. Were all the changes to the fundamental math in AD&D of the game also a part of the regular editing process? The XP tables are far more demanding (especially after name levels), the bonuses progress...

    OSR Why B/X?

As someone who played 3.5/PF briefly and then played 5E, I think there is some nuance to this. There are some core mechanics (attack/damage roll mechanic, ability score/modifier distinction - albeit with different conversion rates -, classes and their primary story functions etc.) that are very...
