    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Preview at Garycon

What sort of support do you think that DM's with decades of experience need that they aren't being given?

The Rise And Fall Of Evil Genius Games

Thank you for the time and effort you put into putting this all together! As a fan of the EDH rule system, it certainly is disheartening.

D&D General JMISBEST's questions. Most of them about campaign ideas that either he or A GM he knows has and wants to know what people think

Well, it's as good an explanation as any. Where is this "10% of the population is normally clerics" number coming from? That seems insanely high for any population. If every population had 1 in 10 people being a spell-using cleric, that would mean massive things for the health, and economy of...

D&D General JMISBEST's questions. Most of them about campaign ideas that either he or A GM he knows has and wants to know what people think

It's ok, don't trouble yourself. To be honest, I'll probably get more mileage out of your story of your adventures than any official module. I appreciate the offer though. Like I said, it was just a neat idea I may use for inspiration when trying to come up with a low level adventure.

Hey, no matter where they got inspiration from. They still turned it into a neat story. I've never heard of Imagine Magazine...guess I should look it up. :) Thanks for sharing!

D&D General JMISBEST's questions. Most of them about campaign ideas that either he or A GM he knows has and wants to know what people think

You see, you should have led with that! That’s much more interesting than how many butlers he rolled. At least in my opinion. I seriously like that idea. The thought that the dragon was empowered by the item, and that it had laid waste to the temple acquiring it. Makes a nice little...

D&D General JMISBEST's questions. Most of them about campaign ideas that either he or A GM he knows has and wants to know what people think

I’d probably wonder why they weren’t extinct :). More seriously, if they are notoriously weak, I’d wonder why killing one was noteworthy enough for someone to be awarded a domain for. Was there extenuating circumstances in this particular case? Was this dragon harder to kill than average...

D&D General JMISBEST's questions. Most of them about campaign ideas that either he or A GM he knows has and wants to know what people think

I’m not sure why you would think that, to be honest. I’d much rather read about your characters themselves. Their stories, their plans and friends and adventures. I started reading about your character and once I realized it was actually just a list of random numbers, I started skimming, and...

D&D General JMISBEST's questions. Most of them about campaign ideas that either he or A GM he knows has and wants to know what people think

That’s too bad! Those sorts of details are always the most interesting bits about a character’s story, not so much how many servants they randomly rolled.

    Dragon Reflections #74

It’s not just you. When I was in high school (almost 40 years ago now…sigh), coming home from school to find out my Dragon magazine had come in the mail was one of the highlights of my month. I’m enjoying these retrospectives very much!

Streaming Services: Power Rankings Summer 2023, and What's Up With Paramount+

Heh...that's my assumption, and fear. If it wasn't for the free shipping, Prime would be in danger of losing me over this. Unless it's a lot less annoying than I think.

Streaming Services: Power Rankings Summer 2023, and What's Up With Paramount+

With Amazon, it's really rubbing me the wrong way. It's one thing to say "Here's an ad-tier if you would like to pay less", and another to say "You're getting ads unless you pay more". I don't know how ads in streaming shows are supposed to work anyway. In network shows, they planned for ads...

Scholarships: You get what you pay for? RANT

Oh man, I really need to start paying more attention to the dates on these posts. Before I start responding to 19 year old threads… Edit: oh crap! Too late, I just did! Heh

WotC [Updated!] Hasbro Laying Off 1,100 Employees

Exactly. I’ll buy (or not) based on the final product. Being laid off is horrible. I feel for those people. I’ve been there. My partner has been there. In fact, I’m not sure I know anyone our age who hasn’t at one time or another. If I stopped purchasing goods and services from companies...

MCDM's New Tactical TTRPG Hits $1M Crowdfunding On First Day!

This is definitely something I’ll take a long hard look at when it’s released. But 2025 is way too far for me to even consider Kickstarting. That’s far enough out that I’m at the age now where I have to at least consider if I’ll even still be here then…heh. (Odds are still in my favour, but...

D&D 5E (2024) 2024 needs to end 2014's passive aggressive efforts to remove magic items & other elements from d&d

Well, I appreciate you taking my posts at face value and not assuming any sarcasm, parody, or I’ll intent. I’m sorry you thought that to begin with. And I do appreciate the effort you took responding. I’m not going to spend the same amount of time, only because I think it’s clear that we both...

D&D 5E (2024) 2024 needs to end 2014's passive aggressive efforts to remove magic items & other elements from d&d

I’m not trying to enshrine the DM as a dictator. Obviously they need to get the buy-in of the entire group. But I guess I’m just more old-school than I thought. Someone has to create the setting and the game. That requires a certain amount of latitude.

D&D 5E (2024) 2024 needs to end 2014's passive aggressive efforts to remove magic items & other elements from d&d

You want DMs to be limited? Is that right? I’m sorry, but to me, the fact that the DM has the freedom to customize the feel of their own game is one of the strengths of the hobby. Just in this thread alone, there’s been a huge variance in the desire for the type and scope of magic items. Why...

D&D 5E (2024) 2024 needs to end 2014's passive aggressive efforts to remove magic items & other elements from d&d

Why should the PHB have rules for magic items? Wouldn’t that straight jacket DMs? In this thread, we’ve seen people who want loads of magic items, some who want minimal, and some in between. Some have wanted both, in different campaigns. Lots of talk about maintaining ‘wonder’. By keeping...

D&D 5E (2024) 2024 needs to end 2014's passive aggressive efforts to remove magic items & other elements from d&d

There's a difference between 'no magic items' and 'no boring + items'. I'm not sure anyone is advocating dumping the magic item section. Just that for some of us, interesting magic items are more worthwhile than endless '+1, +2, +3' weapons and armor. And I don't think anyone is seriously...
