Looking for advice on starting a store & initial inventory

I would suggest stocking up on some zines. They've got a relatively low price point and are eye-catching. Plus, you can get a simple spinner rack and display a bunch of titles at once. We sell far more zines and indie labels than WotC product. One of our best selling titles is Goblin Errands.

    OSR OSR News Roundup

I had mentioned over the summer that author (of both fiction and game material) Howard Andrew Jones was sick with terminal cancer. In addition to being a great writer, Howard was incredibly encouraging to me when I started writing, and his infrequent emails in support of my projects really gave...

Looking for advice on starting a store & initial inventory

Keystone is when a retailer marks up products 100% instead of using the MSRP. For an FLGS (I'm not familiar with other retailers) we typically pay around 55-60% of a product's msrp, so the profit on each sale is around 40-45%. Keystone prices are marked up 100%, so the retailer gets 50% of the...

Looking for advice on starting a store & initial inventory

I wouldn't ordinarily suggest charging keystone for product in a normal circumstance, but I could see doing it in the OP's situation, especially if they brought in a bunch of indie zines and similar that a) are harder to get and b) have a lower price point.

Looking for advice on starting a store & initial inventory

Howdy! As a general rule, you'll be paying between 50-60% of MSRP when you purchase at a wholesale rate. So, in other words, if a thing sells retail for 10.00, your cost will be between 5.00-6.00. There are two ways to sell product: the first is to sell MSRP, which will reduce in lower margins...

    OSR OSR News Roundup

Welcome to the second OSR News Roundup for the new year. For the next month or so I will be annoying probably about half of y'all with ZineMonth updates, and I've got a couple quick ones to go over right now. Luke, of AetherCorp Games, has taken over the mantle of maintaining a community...

    OSR OSR News Roundup

Welcome to the first News Roundup of 2025. As I write this we're staring down the barrel of a winter storm that is promising to dump a bunch of snow on this tonight and tomorrow; hopefully I'll be able to post this before that hits. Last week's releases were pretty light, so let's take a look...

    OSR OSR News Roundup

Welcome to the last news Roundup for both December and 2024. There've been a lot of great new releases this year, and I'm curious to see what peoples' favorites were. Looking forward to 2025, we've got ZineMonth coming up, and I'd love to get more interviews in with folks looking to launch...

    OSR OSR News Roundup

Welcome to the OSR News Roundup for December 23rd, 2024. We're getting within spitting distance of the new year, and for those who celebrate Christmas is just days away. I had seen Undelved, the author of Cave of Cowardice, post works in progress pics of the project over the past few months...

    OSR OSR News Roundup

The first OSR News Roundup was December 20th, 2021, and for three years I've been able to maintain a regular posting schedule, with a break here and there. I started doing this as a way to create a blogging "habit" and have kept going for about 150 of these. I hope y'all have found some fun and...

    OSR OSR News Roundup

Let's jump right in and see what new releases there are for this week's edition, shall we? In what is likely a Roundup first, there's an rpg release on Ko-fi. Entitled Space Cairn, it's a hack of the popular Cairn 2e ruleset for sci-fi gaming. I know I've plugged artists on ko-fi before, but I...

I'm a big fan of Kolb's pointcrawl, and LCoO seems to scratch much the same itch. The illustrations seem pretty true to the source material, and I do like that it is a bespoke system.

    OSR OSR News Roundup

Welcome to the last Roundup of November, and in the States the one before the Thanksgiving break and the consumer chaos that is the weekend after. There's not a ton of new releases that I found this week, which is likely due to the impending holiday season and the general level of busyness...

Kickstarter's 'U' Shaped Curve Is A Reverse 'J' And More Pronounced Than You Thought!

Cool. I'm curious to hear about your experience. One thing I really like so far about BK is the ability to have hidden pledge levels, so I can offer discounts to patreons.

Kickstarter's 'U' Shaped Curve Is A Reverse 'J' And More Pronounced Than You Thought!

Have y'all looked at switching over the Backerkit at all? I've run a bunch of KS projects and noticed the same thing you did. I just launched my second Backerkit campaign, and it's for book three of a yearly series. I funded the previous two on Kickstarter, and they both hit pretty similar...

    OSR OSR News Roundup

Welcome to the third Roundup for November. Releases are a little light this week, no doubt due in part to the impending holiday rush/busyness. There are plenty of one-page systems out there, and now there's Forest Burial, a solo rpg designed to be printed out and stored in a chewing gum case...

    OSR OSR News Roundup

Welcome to the second Roundup of November. Let's jump right in, shall we. This week seems a bit lighter than recent weeks. DURF is a fun little system, and DURF Me to the Moon is a recent entry into the DURF adventure game. It's meant to be a quick one-shot playable in a couple of hours, and...

    OSR OSR News Roundup

Welcome to the first Roundup for November, 2024, and closing in on the last of this year. Like I mentioned in last week's Roundup, that means a number of y'all will be getting ready for the annual ZineMonth event, and like I've done in previous years I'd like to promote your project, whether...
