    OSR OSR News Roundup

It's the last Monday in January, which means that ZineMonth is right around the corner. I'm sure I'll keep banging this drum over the next month or so, and I hope y'all will humor me with this. There are three places you can go to check out the projects on tap this year: Kickstarter's ZineQuest...

    OSR OSR News Roundup

A reader pointed out that I had used 2023 as the date for last week's roundup, so I made sure to write 2024 for this week's. Zine Month is right around the corner, and I'll be posting a series of interviews with participants as it gets into full swing. If you're interested in participating, or...

    OSR OSR News Roundup

As I'm sure most of the readers of this series will know by now, last week we lost one of the true luminaries in the gaming field: Jennell Jaquays. She had fallen sick last year, and finally succumbed to her illness. I never met her personally, but we did correspond via email occasionally. She...

OSR Populated Hexes Monthly Issue 30 on Kickstarter

PHM Issue 30 is now live on Kickstarter for a short little campaign. It features a mountainous hex and begins a deep dive into religion, providing guidelines for creating random deities in OSR-style games, with a focus on small, local gods...

    OSR OSR News Roundup

JE Shields is a well-known artist that works in the OSR community (I've mentioned a couple of his projects here in the past). His son recently passed away, and the NTRPG community is hosting a GoFundMe to help with the funeral expenses. If you'd like to help out the link is here. February's...

    ZineMonth Thread

February's annual ZineMonth is fast approaching, and I was wondering if it would be okay to start a thread to allow creators to post about their ZiMo projects. This obviously verges on advertising, but since it would be supporting indie and small press creators doing (typically) interesting and...

    OSR OSR News Roundup

Welcome to the first news Roundup of 2024, and the start of the third year of this newsletter. I have not had a chance to do a year in review of previous roundups, but I'd be interested in hearing from readers about your favorite releases from 2023. I've been getting ready for ZiMo24, the...

    OSR OSR News Roundup

Welcome to the third Roundup of December. This is the two year anniversary of these Roundups, and I look forward to bringing y'all another year. If I've got time in the next week or so I'm going to try and work up a "Year in Review" post. Looking forward, 2024 is going to be bringing us another...

    OSR OSR News Roundup

It's the second Monday in December, and the end of the year is fast approaching, as is the three-year anniversary of this Roundup. Because Christmas falls on a Monday this year I will likely (but not definitely) be skipping that day. Haven't made up my mind yet. I'm also toying with the idea of...

D&D General How many pages of info do you have for your homebrew setting? (+)

I'm probably at about 1.2k pages of published material. Two hexcrawl books, each around 300 pages, 28 issues of a monthly zine that has around 12 pages of new content each month, plus an assorted 10 or so published hexes that average about 30 pages of content. Plus some implied setting stuff...

    OSR OSR News Roundup

Yes, it is. I think all three look really good. I was a little concerned at first glance when I saw Beyond the Pale -- especially now, I think tackling Jewish mythology is a fraught subject -- but knowing the Yochai is involved made me feel confident it would be done well.

    OSR OSR News Roundup

It's the first Monday is December. What's left of my Twitter feed lit up on Friday with a news of an "Indie RPG Creators Summit" put on by Goodman Games with a promo that featured headshots of ten of the participants; white males all. With as much creativity and innovation as goes on in the OSR...

Goodman Games Announced the Indie RPG Creator Summit; Featured Presenters Share Something In Common

I pointed out to one of the speakers involved with Goodman Games that the tag "indie" is misleading; if they had just stuck with "OSR" there would be less of a fuss -- although I thing that is still misleading and misrepresentative of the current OSR movement, although there is a perception that...

Goodman Games Announced the Indie RPG Creator Summit; Featured Presenters Share Something In Common

Jarrett is former Exalted Funeral, and one of the few speakers that I think exemplifies the "indie" tag. Otherwise, it's a pretty shocking lineup that omits the most creative and innovative voices in the OSR/indie fields, many of whom are BIPOC, queer, or women (or a combination).
