D&D General The Monsters Know What They're Doing ... Are Unsure on 5e24

Unless they want to play a Tortleman! Those people can just get the hell out, no discussion.

D&D General A Way for Players to Roll Hidden Checks

I like to use something I called a Deferred Conflict. Basically, instead of having the player roll the dice when they take the action, they roll the dice when the consequences would be known. This lets you combine the excitement of resolving the situation 'live' and in the open while still...

Art, is it important to you, does it help your roleplaying?

I think it makes a big difference for books. AD&D 2e benefitted hugely from all those full page paintings. MERP similarly gained a real feeling of groundedness and epicness from those wonderful Angus McBride covers and the incredible Pete Fenlon maps. Vampire and Werewolf's moddy black and white...

    Maintaining your secret identity

What are their options if it goes wrong? 'Oh sorry I crushed it by accident'. Are they taking Superman to court? Risk upsetting him? They'd be out millions of pounds with no comeback. How does each government know that you didn't add a surveillance/kill switch device to their satellite, at the...

D&D General The Monsters Know What They're Doing ... Are Unsure on 5e24

Do you think jumping to these extreme examples makes you look more reasonable, or less? Stop with the heir to the halfling empire and the jedi in middle earth shtick.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I stabbed myself in the eye with a (real) Christmas Tree and got pine needles stuck between my eye and my eye lid.

Why do you play games other than D&D?

Many people tell me that Other Worlds is the best RPG to play when you're not playing D&D, also the designer is apparently very handsome and prone to making stupid posts when he is drunk.

Why do you play games other than D&D?

100%. Also, D&D is great! AD&D/AD&D 2e is great and 4th edition (sorry not sorry) is great. They both deliver different experiences and deliver them well. Making 'D&D' the default RPG and trying to make it fit everything does a disservice to those other genres/playstyles but also does a...

    Maintaining your secret identity

Well maybe but I believe you are in the UK too. Police quite regularly seem to repeat old images and say 'we're still looking for this person, do you know who they are?'. It doesn't seem to be that great a means of finding people. If you already are a suspect and they can match you up to an...

D&D General The Monsters Know What They're Doing ... Are Unsure on 5e24

So if you allow one player to play something different, you must therefore allow everyone? How would this be enforced, exactly? Also, why do all the players in your 'no tortles' game want to play tortles? Is it like a forbidden fruit thing? Are they not on board with the setting's deep lore?

D&D General The Monsters Know What They're Doing ... Are Unsure on 5e24

No no, the GM will only allow you to play tortles! Everything else is on the banned list! There is no capitulation, you must play and you must play... forever

    Maintaining your secret identity

In terms of CCTV and so on, one thing that's quite common in the UK is for the police to show (low resolution) images of people of interest in a crime and to ask the public to identify them. Being caught on camera by itself isn't the end of the world if you're not already someone who is well...

    Maintaining your secret identity

I can think of at least one country where a few super-powered murders of government officials would do a hell of a lot of good.

Why do you play games other than D&D?

I've been stating all along that I'm talking about the subjective experience of the players. I don't know what you mean by 'what happens in the setting' outside the experience of the participants. I don't know what this means or what it is in response to. I haven't mentioned the N word once.

Why do you play games other than D&D?

Neither are the players in your game! They think they are, and they make dice rolls, but you never tell them if they were right or not.

Why do you play games other than D&D?

You're telling me that you create mysteries that cannot be solved, and then when the players incorrectly think they have solved them, and go to the authorities about an actually innocent person, you say 'sure thing'?
