I'm a fan of Into the Unknown by @B9anders It is essentially a rewrite of the 5e 2014 SRD with more succinct language, old school sensibilities, and feature limited PCs--which go up to 10. It's more than 50 pages across its 5 short-ish booklets, but the rules booklet is 28.
