The announcers talk about “points” being forbidden for safety reasons. I assume that means stabby stabby is against the rules.

Easy DIY Gaming Table (no woodworking)

That’s an interesting idea. I ordered 80/20’s plastic end caps, which should do the job, but I’ll keep that in mind for where the corners join.

Well, this was a surprise. My test order arrived! About a week earlier than expected. I know what I’m doing for Christmas…

Easy DIY Gaming Table (no woodworking)

I’m still waiting on the aluminum, but gaming mat arrived! This is a custom-cut 4’x6’ mat from Viking Mats. Feels good to play on and looks great. Spendy at $149 but this is the best I could find with a fair amount of searching. Just the mat on the plywood (which is on a folding table for now)...

Easy DIY Gaming Table (no woodworking)

I placed my test order today. It’s two legs, one of the short edges of the frame, one cross beam, and assorted hardware and accessories. I’ll be able to use this to test the support system. It takes 1-2 weeks to ship and another ~7 business days in transit, so it’ll be a while before I have...

Easy DIY Gaming Table (no woodworking)

The mitered corners are out. The first quote I got from Teco Technologies (the 80/20 distributor) had the table frame (the four top edges) at $929.16. The reason they gave me is that mitered corners require a "miter connector," and a 1.5"x3" extrusion requires custom machining for that...

Easy DIY Gaming Table (no woodworking)

Thanks! I might be paranoid, but I could totally see someone standing on the table to change a lightbulb or something. I don’t plan to play those kinds of games on it, but it seems responsible to account for uses a bit outside the norm.

Four non-D&D games that show the breadth of TTRPGs

@TiQuinn For what it's worth, I think The Quiet Year is a great example of the breadth that RPGs have to offer. I haven't played it, but I have played Microscope, which is even less of an "inhabit a individual role" game. Sure, they're more on the "storytelling game" side of the spectrum, but...

Easy DIY Gaming Table (no woodworking)

That’s a great point. The edge is rounded, so that shouldn’t be a problem. The corners might be, though. I have them coming together in a 45 degree miter cut, which might be sharp. I’m going to start by ordering a subset of the parts to do a test run. I’ll test that too. Thanks!

Four non-D&D games that show the breadth of TTRPGs

Let’s go for some serious breadth. Microscope for collaborative world-building Alice is Missing for unique text-based roleplaying Fall of Magic for cooperative storytelling Draw Steel for rules-heavy tactical crunch Mausritter for rules-light traditional gameplay in a unique setting Edit: the...

Easy DIY Gaming Table (no woodworking)

Thanks, this is the sort of feedback I was hoping for when I started this thread. My drawings on the first page are a bit outdated, but mostly correct (the second set overrides and builds on the first set). I'm using 80/20's 1530-S-Black extrusions, which are 3" wide by 1.5" deep. So the...

Easy DIY Gaming Table (no woodworking)

I welcome your thoughts and advice on the table I'm actually building! I made a deliberate choice to build it out of t-slot extruded aluminum (so I can hang accessories from the sides), to a 4'x6' size, with legs, with a built-in gaming mat, and without woodworking. Your table is wooden, a...

Maybe you could share instructions for your build in another thread? I'd like to keep this one focused on the table I'm building.

Best source for 4'x6' gaming mat?

Does anyone have a recommendation for where I can buy a 4'x6' gaming mat? I'm thinking fabric-covered neoprene, but I'm not picky. The best option I've found so far is vikingmats.com, which has cut-to-order neoprene mats. It's $149 so I'm hoping somebody has a cheaper option. (This is for my...

Easy DIY Gaming Table (no woodworking)

Sorry, I'm not following? Also, I don't have any woodworking tools or a shop to work in (or the skills), so part of my goal is to have a build that doesn't require much more than a screwdriver and a wrench.
