How Important is Magic to Dungeons and Dragons? - Third Edition vs Fourth Edition

Aw mang, don't tell me you've already forgotten that the plural of ninja is ninjae. This is a simple extension of that. But then noone ever listens to meeee

How Important is Magic to Dungeons and Dragons? - Third Edition vs Fourth Edition

3E state is complicated by duration, and by the fact that the pre-combat buffing ritual could involve up to half a dozen spells (or more) at high levels. Furthermore, you then had the possibility of dispel magic removing a random subset of those buffs, thus forcing a recalculation mid-fight...

How Important is Magic to Dungeons and Dragons? - Third Edition vs Fourth Edition

There certainly is a learning curve. It just happens to be one that works over multiple encounters. Furthermore, a multi-round duration would appear to have precious little to do with a learning curve, given that the duration is fixed once you cast the spell. Not much learning can take place, at...

How Important is Magic to Dungeons and Dragons? - Third Edition vs Fourth Edition

It is not particularly complicated to handle these effects. You simply let the players do the bookkeeping for their own characters, rather than trying to keep track of everything yourself. As someone who has played to 13th level with 2 leaders in the group, this has not been an issue. The...

    Arcane Power- Wizards Stretched Thin

Ah, right. That's pretty nifty, then. :) (There's quite a few powers around to give extra saves and bonuses to saves.)

    More Hospitaler's Boon woes.

I think the idea behind the hospitaler is that it's usually very hard for a paladin to challenge more than one enemy. So this ability could lockdown one monster at most, leaving the rest free to whack the party. You happened to run into a situation where this wasn't an issue (only 2 monsters...

Amazon delays again (aka "No PHB2 for Russ")

Would ordering from Amazon.com (not .co.uk) help? I've rarely had a problem with the US store, certainly not like what's happening in the UK. Okay, you have to pay and wait for delivery, but you'd probably still get the book faster.

    Arcane Power- Wizards Stretched Thin

So... what's so good about Destiny Inversion that it's a 10th level power? (Other than the shared suffering combo, that is.)

    GTS 2009 D&D Seminar - the Rouse discusses D&D

Hmm... Dungeons and Dragons... as a cartoon....

How Important is Magic to Dungeons and Dragons? - Third Edition vs Fourth Edition

Right. In 4E, being able to understand all kinds of weird and wacky languages is not a "spell". It's a permanent ability. It just takes 10 minutes each day to refresh your memory. In that sense, it's kind of akin to at-will Mage Hand and Ghost Sound.

When someone plays something you don't like

Aw d00d, now you're starting to sound like Hussar.

When someone plays something you don't like

... is a false conclusion to draw from banning halflings. And low-Wis characters. And low-Wis players.

When someone plays something you don't like

Ah, but this is (one reason) why you ban halflings.

When someone plays something you don't like

Only if you believe that the true enjoyment of the game is to be found, not at the table itself, but talking about it afterwards.

When someone plays something you don't like

Nonsense! This merely indicates that you are insufficiently practiced in chewing scenery. Remember, roleplaying is all about violence, angst and chewing scenery.

    Arcane Power- Wizards Stretched Thin

This may be true for you, but whether it is a generalisation that can be validly applied to the population at large is another matter. The most obvious interpretation of "fly Dex mod squares" is just that: you fly for Dex mod squares. At the end of that, you fall, if you're not on the ground...

When someone plays something you don't like

You say this like it's a negative thing.

When someone plays something you don't like

The solution to this is to ban low-Wis players. Oh, and characters too.

When someone plays something you don't like

Ah. Enough about banning stuff. Let me now wax lyrical about the joy of banning players.
