Dungeons & Dragons Announces Arcana Unleashed, New Magic-Themed Sourcebook at $49.99 Price Point

Much like the Artificer, they want the psion to be used for Dark Sun, but not ONLY for Dark Sun. And while psionics (like artifice) existed on other settings prior to the creation of Dark Sun (Eberron), those settings are the showcase for them due to their prominent use in the setting.

I'm going to assume you have never played a "limited access beta" for a video game before. It's not like they send you the code and tell you squash bugs, or ask you how you would rebuild whole sections of the game. They give you a vertical slice and say "is this fun?" Did the netcode hold up...

If Enworld built a car, it would have options to drive it automatic or manual drive, front, back or 4 wheel drive capability, and run on gas, electric, or a crank in the front for those who still want to hand start it. I don't think I would trust committee design for a game either.

The issue is the minute you announce the playtest for 6e, 5/5.5 is a lame duck. You will sell NOTHING but either edition-neutral products or short adventures. You announce the playtest on December 31st, 2029 and D&D 5e dies January 1st, 2030. Your sales drop off the cliff. You D&D Beyond...

Dungeons & Dragons Announces Arcana Unleashed, New Magic-Themed Sourcebook at $49.99 Price Point

It's gonna get Dark Sun first and then reprinted in something generic later like the Artificer. That way they can use it pump sales of Dark Sun to people who otherwise wouldn't use the setting and then later reprint it.

Every 6e timeline is predicated on this "fact". I don't think the difference in sales in 5.5 and 5.0 are going to be different enough that WotC drops everything to work on 6e. Why would they? Announcing a new core only three years after the last ones came out would a.) kill two years of...

Dungeons & Dragons Announces Arcana Unleashed, New Magic-Themed Sourcebook at $49.99 Price Point

You've convinced me that all the stuff playtested in 2025, from Reanimator to Spellbreaker paladin, will all be in Arcana Unleashed. Except the psion, that's going in the Dragonlance book this December.

No way the cavalier is in a book called Arcana Unleashed. You might as well say the Apocalypse subclasses are in The Horror Within because disaster horror is type of horror.

I'm not convinced the mystic UA is going into this product. The UA is too new (only can't out in January), and the terminology change (Arcana for the first two, Mystic for the new one) really tell me they are for a different project. I think your arcana subs will be the four wizards, arcana...

We already have 2026's books on the menu and UAs for things we probably won't see until 2027. Dragonlance, Spelljammer and Planescape are all open for a second product, we haven't gotten a Tasha-like book or monster book, and only one module. At the current rate, you are predicting two...

What non-profit game are you playing? I assume something like Basic Fantasy who releases all there rules for free and changes pod print rates at-cost and never see a dime of profit unless you donate so them.

I'm not arguing necessarily against that, but there is a lot of "play testing" that doesn't actually involve any playing playing just theoycrafting and assumptions based on it.

See, it's hot takes like this one why I put zero faith in the D&D Community for playtesting anything. Even a rudimentary reading of the 24 PHB would show how the Dance Bard is the weakest bard subclass and barely does what a monk does in its sleep. It's DPS is too low to be a martial, lacks any...

D&D is notoriously hard to playtest for. A video game can offer a slice of concept as a beta to let the devs get feedback on what they are looking for specifically (lag, design issues, balance problems). D&D can't. Some people will white room design. Some will min max. Some will roll up a...

D&D, as part of it's DIY spirit, is full of amateurs thinking they understand the game better than the professionals. I've been looking at the 6e thread and the vast majority of suggestions that get tossed in there would collapse the game and drive away fans because they are catering to a highly...

As to the survey, I only asked for clearer communication. Beyond has decently clear ideas on what is happening, but I feel of late the pivot from Kendrick's videos with designers has left us too busy guessing and ascribing motives in the silence. Say what you will about the One D&D playtests...
