What are you reading in 2026?

Horrostor was fantastic. A friend of mine used that as a basis for a scenario in our X-Filesish d20 Modern game and it was amazing.

Goodman Games: Our Efforts Have Been Mischaracterized

You could say something quick like, there is some controversy over Goodman and you don't support them anymore, (if that is your case) so you are using 3rd party DCC funnel X as your example funnel and pull out something like Sunken City Omnibus from Purple Sorcerer Games which has a couple...

What are you reading in 2026?

I just finished S. Petersen's Field Guide to Lovecraftian Horrors. My son got me the hardcover for Christmas. 128 pages of monster and Great Old One descriptions with lush art. Statless and in character. Two page spread plus a big piece of art for each entry, 53 entities covered, plus a size...

D&D General The 3.5 Binder was a really cool class

Yep, we swapped those out to use the monster spell like ability metamagic feats, so no DC increase but usable x times per day. Keeping it simple. The truespeaker was a member of the Paragnostic Assembly, but it was a flavor thing tying him into the plot, not the prestige class.

D&D General The 3.5 Binder was a really cool class

I had a player want to play a truespeaker in a game but I felt it was way too fiddly mechanically for specific DCs and scaling and specific buffing gear so I came up with houserules to simplify it a bit. Truespeaking (Level Check + Int vs. 10+CR) Law of Repetition houserule. Each use against...

D&D General The 3.5 Binder was a really cool class

It was interesting and had potential, but I mostly came down on the side of not really seeing LG paladin Hieroneous and LG cleric St. Cuthbert churches allying with explicitly evil Vecna priests just to war upon pact magic users. Possibly if pact magic were unleashing an apocalypse or destroying...

AD&D 2E Fey, but Old Skool

Necrotic Gnome does OSE, a B/X retroclone so it is fairly close to 2e, including optional advanced rules to put 1e classes and spells and monsters into a B/X framework. Things will be a little weaker than AD&D (B/X PCs have smaller HD, smaller max ability score bonuses, etc.) Their Dolmenwood...

D&D General The 3.5 Binder was a really cool class

One way is to keep random charts but have something like 5e advantage on the rolls so you are likely to get something applicable to the situation and what you are doing, that will give you more of the good stuff when you need it, but also have some randomness. For the failure when recoverable...

Dungeon Crawl Classics What is cool to you from a player perspective?

It is sort of random twice, once in rolling up the four zero level characters, but then again as you try and protect your characters and death comes randomly and easily. I think my first funnel death came from everybody make a luck roll, those who fail die, in which there is no way to protect...

Dungeon Crawl Classics What is cool to you from a player perspective?

Yes, but for viewing say Deadlands I do not know if it was an attempt to make it a glorification or whitewashing of the Confederacy or an attempt to make a gameable Weird West with no slavery but a plot element of prolongation of the Civil War and giving people from the American South as a...

Dungeon Crawl Classics What is cool to you from a player perspective?

You then get the question of whether dark satire space marines as the heroic good guys of the 40K universe are taken straight as non satire space Nazi heroes. Judge Dredd gets this too.

Dungeon Crawl Classics What is cool to you from a player perspective?

I don't know about that, in many things I would really want at least a little more data. I am put off by both the Confederacy romanticizing of both fiction that whitewashes the Confederacy by making them not really about slavery (I believe the Deadlands version has them naturally move past...
