    Sell me on True20

I agree with this completely. I think True20 has the flexibility to do more genres out of the box as well with less tweaking, although there are good D20 books out there for different genres that do the job admirably as well.

Can you tell me how to get to Ol’-Skool street?

Hell yes! That would be my first choice. A VERY close second would be the Rules Cyclopedia.

Warhammer RPG campaign starting--what to buy?

I love me some WFRP 2. I would suggest getting the main book and the bestiary to start off with. If you find yourself loving the game, then you might consider getting sigmar's heirs to flesh out the world a bit (though, if like auld grump, you dislike the newer version of the world (I kind of...

Using your PDA at the game table

No PDA usage here, but as the GM of our group's campaigns I tend to use my Apple Powerbook at the table for keeping my various notes in order. Kills less trees and it's easier to keep up with appended and amended notes.

    All D20 Is Broken

D20 is not my favorite system, but I can tell you that my level 8-9 group of 8 players would disagree strongly with the OP. We have had some pretty epic battles and sometimes they end up moving more than actually fighting, trying to gain terrain advantage and tactical superiority. I suspect your...

Ryan Dancey speaks - the Most Successful Year for Fantasy RPGaming ever. However...

I'm a 12 year I.T. professional, programmer, Network Admin, and Technology Purchasing Agent for a major medical and educational institution. As a professional and someone who actually has to research and maintain a certain level of expertise on technology both upcoming and current, I have at...

Ryan Dancey speaks - the Most Successful Year for Fantasy RPGaming ever. However...

Ok, the skycar statement seems ridiculous to me. You assert that my speculation is "unfounded". The foundation I am speculating upon is reality, our recent past. As for the technological limitations: they have been breached in the past and will continue to be breached in the future. I fail to...

Ryan Dancey speaks - the Most Successful Year for Fantasy RPGaming ever. However...

No snark intended, but I think *you* fail to see my point. If the technology has come this far this fast, who is to say those tools that are lacking now won't be available in 5 or 10 years to anyone who wants to use them (and easily even)? If you had told me in 1985 that WoW would look and play...

Ryan Dancey speaks - the Most Successful Year for Fantasy RPGaming ever. However...

That is absolute rubbish. In 20 years we have gone from Commodore Vic-20's and C-64's to 4+ ghz 64 bit processors with terabyte storage for HOME USERS. The graphics and playability of games have gone from Pong to WoW and Battlefield 2 in that span. Unless you don't plan on living for 20 more...

Serenity/Firefly RPG - Anyone played it?

Dontcha just hate games that are fast and fun?? :p But seriously, I personally like the system, it reminds me a bit of the Savage Worlds system which is also a pretty nice little system for cinematic games like this. As has already been stated, I think that a lot of the little bits of...

Has WotC ever enforced the OGL?

Maybe the "J" in Philip J. Reed stands for "Just wondering". :p sorry, bad bad joke.

    Got Hobbits?

Gotta set you right here, BR. The D&D Rules Cyclopedia, Chapter 8, Page 108 has a target cover table that lists 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and full cover as valid levels of cover with appropriate modifiers. This is not a 3.x idea, this goes all the way back to BECM D&D and maybe before.

Just got my Dragon Compendium - Pretty!

Looks like tons more classes, feats, prestige classes, etc. Ill pass. I have quite enough of this junk already. I was *SO* hoping that some of the really nice old articles would be polished up and put forth in these pages. A lot more descriptive and how-to stuff would be nice, although not...

Semi-Rant: Maturity and dumbing down a game

Oh, look. Another snarky "your opinion is only valid if it's in line with mine" post. Perhaps we should keep an archive of these as well, so we can just cut and paste them whenever someone is disinvited from intelligent expression in the forum.

What game mechanics etc. do you, the DM, forbid?

We dont use the 3.5 weapon sizing rules We dont use the cover and concealment rules from 3.5 both revert to 3.0 We dont use the damage reduction rules as written in 3.5, using a 3.0/3.5 hybrid system instead.

Anyone here ever used the Tarrasque succesfully?

Sure, my PCs stood within 15 feet of the Tarrasque and didnt sustain a scratch!!! ...because it was entombed in a solid block of ice in the Spine of the World Mountains.
