You have a point. This could probably be mitigated somewhat by having preview material (out of the manuscript) available for the "try before you buy" folk, but I imagine there's not much more you can do with that.

I've been recently thinking a lot about the "sacred cows" of D&D, and why, to some, more recent editions have lost the "feel" of D&D. I now grudgingly admit that (after playing for three years) the current edition has lost something, but I can't exactly put my finger on it. Could it be that...

Or...you can get GURPS Lite for free and use that w/ the Dungeon Fantasy books :)

GURPS does it on a hex grid, but it's considered optional as part of the "Advanced" combat rules.

I had one Star Wars RPG (d20) book I had to return because of mismatched pages. Another D&D 4e book I bought once had smudged ink and weird wrinkling on some pages. I was glad I opened it before leaving the store (it was shrink-wrapped.) Otherwise, I've had pretty good luck with the quality...

No...because I'm getting kind of tired of incompatible D&D editions. Yes...if they can somehow make an edition that a) reunites the fan base, and b) makes me feel like it's the 1990s again. I know...purely selfish, pie-in-the-sky nostalgia :blush:
