RPG Evolution: Gift Ideas for Your Gaming Group 2024

"Accommodate up to 4 dices..." No! Bad ad! If you're selling a dice-related product, please use the correct plural. (I know everyone hates pedantry, but come on!)

A Sneak Peek of the 2024 D&D Dungeon Master's Guide

Man, I really wish they had put more effort into those DM tracker sheets. They look like someone dashed them off in five minutes. Why is there a huge box for "alignment" on that NPC sheet? You really only need space for two letters. I've seen a bunch of third party "campaign tracker" products...

Dungeons & Dragons to Release 50th Anniversary Double Vinyl Record

I'd love to have a clearer description of what the music actually sounds like. It's really hard to tell what to expect from the super vague description in the press release.

Dungeons & Dragons 2024 Player's Handbook Officially on Sale Today

Do we know if game stores in the U.S. will be able to get more of the alternate cover? I spoke to a gentleman working at a game store in Columbus, Ohio tonight who said they are not able to order more. Of course, the same guy told me the book only contains rules on "how to create characters"...

    D&D 5E (2024) The D&D Direct 2024 Watch Thread

Yeah, me too. We're getting new Forgotten Realms books and an updated version of the Keep on the Borderlands. That's fine and all, I mean, I'm as nostalgic as the next guy, but MAN it seems like they play it safe over there at Wizards. They've done a handful of new things (like Radiant Citadel...

D&D General D&D Player's Handbook 2024: The Official Advance Review

I'm also annoyed by all the creature stat blocks where they list the "mod" and "save" value for each stat and all the numbers are the same. Like a giant weasel has a -3 as its Int mod, and also a -3 to Int saves. There are more elegant ways to do this....

D&D General D&D Player's Handbook 2024: The Official Advance Review

"A creature is your enemy if it fights against you in combat, actively works to harm you, or is designated your enemy by the rules or DM." I mean... was there some confusion on this point that they felt they needed to clarify? Seems unnecessary.

D&D General D&D Player's Handbook 2024: The Official Advance Review

Okay, I have been reading through the new PHB, and... I'm really annoyed by it. I've played tons and tons of 5E. I am not a WotC hater. But.... 1) All the people saying the organization is better and reduces page-flipping are just flat out wrong. Now, you have a paragraph about conditions that...

    Too soon.

D&D General Classic Adventure Themed Dice Sets From Beadle & Grimm's

I like the idea. I wish B&G would stop including giant metal coins in all their products. They are 100% useless and just make everything more expensive.

    D&D 5E (2024) New D&D Edition's Player’s Handbook Alternate Art Cover Reveal

I like this a lot, although the art says "indie RPG" more than "D&D" to me.

Parsely Turns Classic Adventure Games Into Fun For Everyone

In a strange bit of synchronicity, I just ran this game for the first time last weekend. We had a great time with it. I'm curious as to why this relatively old game has suddenly re-entered our collective consciousness.

D&D 5E (2014) Quest From The Infinite Staircase Adventures Revealed

I'm a little disappointed that they're doing Pharaoh without doing the other two adventures in the Desert of Desolation series. And man, if you're going to do Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth, why not go ahead and do Forgotten Temple of Tharizdun? Yeah, I know, space is limited. I guess they wanted to...

The Rise And Fall Of Evil Genius Games

A few random thoughts: + Evil Genius Games had a strong presence at Origins. I hadn't planned to get any of their stuff, but couldn't pass up the adaptations of Escape From New York, Kong: Skull Island, and Pacific Rim. + They definitely had some marketing $$$ behind them. I got a free ball...

D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Core Rulebooks: 'We'll Still Be Working On Them In May'

If my notes are correct, there were seven things they announced at Pax Unplugged. Immediately afterward, they said the dates given were wrong, but they'd all still come out in 2024. But it's hard to imagine them releasing seven books in, say, the Sept - Dec timeframe. Unless maybe the Vecna book...

Ben Riggs: 'The Golden Age of TTRPGs is Dead'

I would be more sympathetic to his point if we had seen a trend of RPG crowdfunding efforts getting smaller and smaller returns. We continue to see the opposite. We also know that lots of people support Kickstarters and never actually play the RPG (says the guy with a shelf full of beautiful...

MCDM's New Tactical TTRPG Hits $1M Crowdfunding On First Day!

I'm very curious about this game, but a little sad to see that it seems to be all d6-based. Guess I'm going to have to create my own d12-based game.

D&D General What Is Your Dream 50th Anniversary Product?

When D&D celebrated its 25th anniversary in 1999, they released a nice boxed set featuring reprints of several classic modules, the Holmes rulebook, and a brief history of TSR booklet. I've been thinking about what I'd love to see Wizards release in 2024 for D&D's 50th anniversary, and it's a...
