Level Up (A5E) Fast learner heritage feature and armor proficiency.

@Distracted DM covered this better than I was going to. That's fair - I am sure there ways to achieve this in a game. I do think that games allow players more opportunities to wave away these sacrifices than real life does.

Level Up (A5E) Fast learner heritage feature and armor proficiency.

I agree with this. I am hesitant to give out features "for free" that are inherent in other classes. Downtime + gold is "for free" in my books because there isn't a sacrifice being made by the player.

Level Up (A5E) Fast learner heritage feature and armor proficiency.

It is for this same reason why I wouldn't allow a wizard to learn/gain armor proficiency in their downtime because it would mean that they aren't practicing to become a better wizard (a deliberate learned experience) and instead focusing on "mundane" aspects of the world. Given this reasoning...

    Draw Steel the MCDM RPG!

I started watching gameplay from the playtest and it looks really fun and easy for both DM and players. Not sure if the groups or the mechanics but it definitely felt really fast paced. The DMs really had an easy time finding cool stuff to use without significant prep - they are were reading the...

Level Up (A5E) Basic Maneuver Saving Throw Question

I know this is an old post but it is interesting. It terms of "realism", I agree that these mechanics seem at odds with each other. However, I like the idea that once a character has a condition/debuff they need rethink what is best instead of just going to whatever they are really strong at...

Level Up (A5E) Thoughts on A5E classes from your table(s)?

Thank you. GPG is where I originally quoted from. Is a "Duel" a specific event specified somewhere?

I knew it was too good to be true. Please help. Where are "Dueling Maneuvers"?

Level Up (A5E) Thoughts on A5E classes from your table(s)?

In trying to find CMs that are for utility or movement I came across this gem: Blinding Diversion: Basic maneuver; no exertion; Bonus action: Amazing use of a bonus action.

Level Up (A5E) Thoughts on A5E classes from your table(s)?

I like this thinking. The system is young and will likely improve with these types of suggestions. Fighters getting more fighting styles might be a good ASI or feat option or just including them into the fighter level progression specifically as a homebrew rule. I support utility improvements...

Level Up (A5E) Thoughts on A5E classes from your table(s)?

Agreed. I still think that CMs provide much needed versatility beyond swinging a sword. There are very good defensive and utility CMS that can very impactful. These could have more strength depending on the type of game/DM you are playing with. If a CM is "just strong in any situation" then I...

Level Up (A5E) Thoughts on A5E classes from your table(s)?

Thank you. I hope me asking for an "authority" didn't undermine the contributions to my questions so far. All your input is valuable. If this is contested at a table I just go with a what the DM decides is best for the game. If they decide to look into further I know they will want an...

Level Up (A5E) Thoughts on A5E classes from your table(s)?

Thanks @thuter ! It seems clear me but I am not the best at rules interpretation. I don't mind that TWF gets a bit of love - extra attack using your bonus action (BA) is great but you are really starved of doing anything other than using attacking with your BA if you want to be comparable with...

Level Up (A5E) Thoughts on A5E classes from your table(s)?

To your question: Yes. You are right. In my examples a maneuver is not specified. However, in typical play an "action" maneuver would typically be used for TWF (any of the Assault maneuvers) and they apply to all attacks made including reaction attacks. Wouldn't Technical Fighter damage apply...

Level Up (A5E) Thoughts on A5E classes from your table(s)?

Specifically addressing this: I ran numbers on this and Two Weapon Fighting [fighting style] did a lot less than I had anticipated compared to Technical Fighter [fighting style]. Assumptions: 20 Strength; Longsword and dagger held; Average damage; 100% hit rate; 0% crit. TWF - Technical...

    Draw Steel the MCDM RPG!

Matt didnt even suggest the name. His partners/colleagues all put names down and it went through multiple voting processes to finally arrive at Draw Steel. Draw (baseless) Conclusions.

Level Up (A5E) Fighter Specialization: Best Maneuvers

Apologies if this is necro-ing your post but it did peek my interest. Is this strategy viable for a 10th level fighter? I haven't yet played using the LU system and from experience numbers on paper can be very different to those at a table. Here are my numbers assuming: specialization in...

Level Up (A5E) One of A5e best subtle changes: Legendary Resistance

This is really cool. Legendary resistance has a cost beyond a single point marked off on a sheet that feels, or is, impactful to the encounter. Players will feel that they spell/action actually did something instead of just of "well, at least you got a one of those legendary resistances"...

Level Up (A5E) Thoughts on A5E classes from your table(s)?

If you are considering options around minimum damage ranges perhaps you could consider minimum max health as a prerequisite to apply SA. Eg, only bloodied creatures are now vulnerable to SA. This gives some time before SA is effective and your monsters and others players benefit.

Level Up (A5E) Thoughts on A5E classes from your table(s)?

Completely missed this in the stunned condition - "A stunned creature is incapacitated (see the condition), can’t move, and can speak only falteringly. Movement is listed as an action so I thought it could be performed.

Level Up (A5E) Thoughts on A5E classes from your table(s)?

Thanks for the replies and insight guys! Went back into the thread to find your respective takes and provided excerpts below: @Distracted DM 's version: "Until the start of your next turn, when you hit a creature with a melee weapon attack it makes a Constitution saving throw or is rattled...
