D&D 5E (2014) What do players spend their treasure on?

Someone mentioned prostitutes. Apparently that was an actual (and kinda creepy) 1e option: http://www.toplessrobot.com/2008/06/the_12_harlots_of_the_dungeons_dragons_random_harl.php We've come a long way.

D&D 5E (2014) The format of the spell list in the PHB is just plain awful.

I suspect that in addition to reverting to an old school format, they also were trying to avoid printing the description of a spell that appears on multiple class lists more than once. A good middle ground would have been to put the class-specific lists at the end of their respective entries in...

    D&D 5E (2014) Running Eberron in 5E

Separately from any concerns for mechanical balance and trade offs, the 1/2 healing for warforged in 3e never made narrative since to me since 3e all healing was divine magic. It seems like if the gods wanted a warforged hero healed, they'd let their clerics heal them fully.

D&D 5E (2014) What do players spend their treasure on?

"There comes a time, thief, when the jewels cease to sparkle, when the gold loses its luster, when the throne room becomes a prison, and all that is left is a father's love for his child." -- King Osric

I'm laughing at this post as I prepare to teach my own course this afternoon. Always nice to meet another man of letters. :)

    D&D 5E (2014) Missing Backgrounds

Pretty cool. A couple of things that come to mind: You might consider proficiency with calligrapher's or mapmaker's tools as opposed to a gaming set and/or limit the gaming set proficiency to chess. Also consider Performance as a possible skill. Classical university educations entailed a...

D&D 5E (2014) Good art and Really bad art in the 5e PHB

Anyone else think the female warrior on the page across from the weapons table looks like Shae from Game of Thrones? Regardless, she has a real Arabian Nights look. I'm also glad to see a more diverse array of humans in the artwork.

    D&D 5E (2014) Monk Damage

Does a monk add his/her ability modifier to his bonus martial arts attack? The description doesn't say to exclude it. Assuming you add it in, does that effectively give the monk the two-weapon fighting style available to fighters, rangers, and paladins?

    D&D 5E (2014) magic ponies for everyone

It's also not a ritual to allow the paladin the option to dismiss and resummon the mount with a degree of ease and frequency.

D&D 5E (2014) Good art and Really bad art in the 5e PHB

I and most of my gaming group cut our teeth on 2e and so far all of us who did have said independently that the art and layout makes it feel like a successor of the 2e PHB, visually at least. That gave me a warm fuzzy. I'm of two minds regarding the halflings. The proportionately tiny feet...

    D&D 5E (2014) Action Econ 101

I think the "a" in the "and a possible bonus action" is part of the confusion. It can be read to mean that you get a possible bonus action unique to the effects of Action Surge. I think the intent to was to remind the reader that the [standard] action granted is in addition to the regular...

D&D 5E (2014) Humans RAW Can Start With multiple 18's

True, but that option also requires the DM to allow feats (and entitles humans to a free one at 1st level), so exercising one option takes another away if you follow the RAW.

D&D 5E (2014) Find Steed and controlling that Steed

That makes for some pretty good RP. Your mount can also kind of be your Jimminy Cricket, acting as your conscience on behalf of whatever forces empower your oath.

D&D 5E (2014) What do players spend their treasure on?

A wealth and status mechanic would be cool. Perhaps owning art objects and displaying them in your home helps build status. Of course, then keeping them secure in order to maintain your status becomes one use of wealth.
