They are wizard implements. However, by taking the Arcane Implement Proficiency feat, any arcane class can use them. Both are covered in Arcane Power.

    Need help finding suitable monsters

I would say don't focus exlcuslively on humanoids. Throw in some beasts. In a city, the guard and some resident adventurers will have mounts and other animals trained for war and will bring them along to fight just as they would their armor and weapons. Beasts often make good brutes and allow...

    Arabic Legends, Themes & Phrases

Ghouls originate in Arabaic legend. Since he's a paladin, he could have some particular history with the ravenous undead that set him on that path.

Half-Orc Barbarian: Blow-hards the both of you. She probably was some scaly faced camp girl. Looked like that one's mother. Dragonborn Paladin|Sorcerer: My mother was a pure woman hatched from a fine egg. And I, at least, know who my father is, you pig-nosed son of an orc!

This was the kind of book I needed as a DM, but YMMV (and it seems it does from some of the posts above). I have a full time job and family and outside of D&D Encounters, I get one Saturday night every other week to play D&D, and not a lot of time in between to plan. For whatever reason the...

    Unbelievable!

I think that's also their approach to Planescape, Spelljammer, and Ravenloft - make them possible as an element of the default setting and if a DM wants a campaign to focus on one specifically, he has the tools to do it. Sigil and spelljamming ships were introduced in Manual of the Planes, as...

    Unbelievable!

I am starting to think that the default Points of Light setting is the only official setting that will give us any Greyhawk elements. We have Greyhawk gods in the pantheon - Pelor, Vecna, Lolth, Moradin, etc. (recall FR lifted their demihuman deities right out of Greyhawk). We've seen the...

    Legends & Lore: Loyal Opposition

In the current 4e system: High ability score (18-20) gives you a +4 or +5 bonus. You can raise this ability every 4th level, eventually getting an additional +3 by mid-epic tier. Skill training gives you a +5 bonus. You can get an additional +3 with the Skill Focus feat. So, a person with...

    Legends & Lore: Loyal Opposition

I rescind my statement about C&C. I reread the article and realized I misunderstood the concept. Apologies to Mr. Mearls.

    Legends & Lore: Loyal Opposition

http://www.wizards.com/dnd/Article.aspx?x=dnd/4ll/20110823 I have enjoyed the last few columns deconstructing the concept of skills, but honestly my first reaction to this one was: "Congradulations, Mike - You just discovered Castles & Crusades." While presented a bit differently, when you...

D&D 4E Do you really want Greyhawk and Dragonlance for 4e

Regarding Greyhawk (which I have far less experience with than FR or DL), I recall a discussion on another message board back when 4e came out. A guy was getting back into D&D and wanted to use 4e but have the setting be Greyhawk, since that is what he was most familiar with from his younger...

Heard a ridiculous thing at encounters tonight

That statment just created an existential crisis for hundreds of people in two camps: "Chick Tract" style Christian fundamentalist D&D haters. Gamers who forget not every person of faith is a "Chick Tract" style Christian fundamentalist D&D hater, and some of them actually play D&D. Well played...

D&D 4E Do you really want Greyhawk and Dragonlance for 4e

I have been thinking about the "what era?" issue for Dragonlance. I think some excellent pionts have been made that the novels sort of define the setting and make it hard for PCs to change the course of history the way they can in other settings. When last I played in Dragonlance (2e), our...

D&D 4E Do you really want Greyhawk and Dragonlance for 4e

If I recall correctly, knights could also be promoted into the next higer order (Crown to Sword, Sword to Rose). Would that be accounted for by multiclassing?

All the better. That's two less things from the core rules the DM has to worry about denying players.

    Essentials builds in Dragon?

You can still get the Executioner from the Dragon archives if you want it without purchasing the entire Heroes of Shadow. In addition to the mage, hexblade, and warpriest options already mentioned, Heroes of Shadow also has an entirely new paladin build (Blackguard) and warlock build (Binder)...

    Your best tribute builds?

I haven't sat down to flesh it all out, but the Executioner ("Essassin") looks like it gets you a long way towards Batman. You have to say he chooses to do non-lethal damage and would take feats related to unarmed combat.
