D&D General Weird "DnD Is Dead" Youtube Trend??

There are days, getting more and more frequent lately, when I feel that allowing monetization of YouTube videos was a mistake.

Dungeons & Dragons Will Announce New Products at Gen Con, Modules Returning to Game

They didn't really have a reputation because people literally didn't know or forgot they existed. There would be tons of threads asking "Why doesn't WotC publish any short adventures?" I'm the first to concede that the AL adventures do vary widely in quality, but there are some real gems in there.

Dungeons & Dragons Will Announce New Products at Gen Con, Modules Returning to Game

There were over 100 of them, and you always could mix and match. People just totally ignored things published for Adventurer's League for some reason.

D&D General Weird "DnD Is Dead" Youtube Trend??

If that was the issue, I'd expect to see more channels that started out with D&D advice and switched to "D&D is Dying" content. But the ones that I've seen running the "D&D is Dying" headline recently are ones that have been anti-D&D at least since the OGL debacle if not longer.

    D&D General Heartwarming

Awwww, what a sweet story! (And just inject some contrarianism, I don't believe having a most popular RPG is detrimental to the RPG as a whole--the opposite, in fact.)

    D&D 5E (2014) Do You Start At Level 1?

I voted "sometimes." It depends on the campaign and the players. For players who are new to the game, I like starting at level 1 because it introduces the features gradually. For those who are more experienced, especially if it's going to be a short campaign, I am more likely to start higher.

    D&D 5E (2024) Unfreezing the Narrative

If it happens for many combatants in a row spanning multiple rounds, you've probably set your monster's AC too high. Awesome idea, but I have to ask, what happens when a player pulls from the cup, rolls, and still doesn't hit? Does that just compound the issue?

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Is Now OFFICIALLY Called "5.5e"

Oh, thank goodness. Now we can stop being all over the place in what we call it. Though, ironically, it seemed like the fans had settled on calling it 5E (2024).

D&D General Besides Nimble, are there other stripped down versions of 5e...

Just use the PHB only, no supplements. Boom, done.

Homebrew Do people in your game world put cheese on their apple pies??

Both combinations are good! The contrast is key. I figured a sharp apple might "ping" less as dessert, and therefore seem less weird with cheese, which is why I suggested it for a starter option.

Homebrew Do people in your game world put cheese on their apple pies??

You're missing out! Try a sharp apple (like a Granny Smith) with a mild cheese (like Monterrey jack) as an experiment. Mmmmm! 😋

Homebrew Do people in your game world put cheese on their apple pies??

There's a meme that goes something like this: If you're outside the US, a Yankee is an American. If you're inside the US, a Yankee is a northerner. If you're in the north of the US, a Yankee is a New Englander. If you're in New England, a Yankee lives in Vermont, New Hampshire, or Maine. If...

D&D 5E (2024) Is WOTC done publishing campaigns?

My group had an absolute blast with Tyranny. And the one-book version fixes a lot of the balance issues from the original two-book release. Just be sure you get buy-in from your players to go into a town that's being attacked by an adult blue dragon at level 1. Beyond that, it should be pretty...

    D&D 5E (2024) Aasimar is a really strong species in 2024

Surely that depends on the campaign? If my DM homebrews an adventure called "The Necromancer's Pits of Deadly Death," then I would expect necrotic damage to come up way more often than radiant.

    D&D 5E (2024) No 5.5 AP Yet?

Hoard of the Dragon Queen is fine. It doesn't deserve the hate it gets.

D&D General Gods, huh, what are they good for?

I feel like your premise here is flawed, because we have no way of knowing what deities do or don't do in people's individual games. Every GM is free to use deities as much as they like or don't like.

D&D General The "Ease of Long Rests" as a metric for describing campaigns / DM styles?

Here's the thing, though. Taking LTH is my group signaling how they want to play. They want to be able to have a lot of control over when they can get a long rest. If I mess with that too often, then it just becomes antagonistic DMing--not to mention that at a certain point it may strain...

D&D General The "Ease of Long Rests" as a metric for describing campaigns / DM styles?

But by RAW, you don't need to actually sleep in order to get the benefits of a long rest, no?
