D&D 5E (2014) And Lo, the Fighter Did Get a Shtick of his Own... COMBAT SUPERIORITY!

Some essentials classes have at will stances. The key diference between them or at will attacks and feats is that feats all work at the same time, all the time, sinergizing (if the character is properly built) so 99% of rounds there's one and only option that's better than any other option, so...

    [Tavern] Tower's Shard 2011

No need for that. Provocative order gives the charge attack 1[W] extra damage.

D&D 5E (2014) And Lo, the Fighter Did Get a Shtick of his Own... COMBAT SUPERIORITY!

Fighters having discrete abilities have never supposed a problem for most people; everyone was ok with barbarian rage or the Cleave feat, unless the mechanics were too similar to fire and forget spells. In this case, all combat superiority share a common resource, so it shouldn't be a problem...

D&D 5E (2014) And Lo, the Fighter Did Get a Shtick of his Own... COMBAT SUPERIORITY!

Which game? Is Exalted? You're talking about Exalted, aren't you?!? More seriously they only have to divide those maneuvers into Gritty (level 1+: Trip, extra damage), Heroic (level 6+: attack everyone around you, grapple ogres), Bigger than life (level 11+: attack everyone in a room, rip...

D&D 5E (2014) With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

I don't disagree, it's just that the gorge is causing more problems than it should. You know how arguments work in the internet; you compare life to a box of chocolates, and someone will jump in saying that life, in fact, it's not made of cardboard and given as a gift in St. Valentine's day. In...

D&D 5E (2014) With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

I agree that the gorge example is a bit too extreme and is muddying the issue. I've described many times in combat being hit (or failing to hit) as the defender or attacked tripping on a loose rock or slipping on something without the player thinking “I must improve my Balance skill” Plus, how...

    Teleportation

In one of the campaigns I DMed I took the “teleportation is inexact” route, so you appeared within a couple miles of the intended target. It worked well for the most part at avoiding most of the troubles mentioned in the OP (unless you consider bypassing wilderness treks a problem) and it was...

D&D 5E (2014) And Lo, the Fighter Did Get a Shtick of his Own... COMBAT SUPERIORITY!

Now we're arriving at something. Sounds good in principle (and the idea is splatbook friendly, which won't hurt at the moment of getting adopted) I wonder if the basics could be adapted to other classes; rogues already have backstab dice, and would be simple to expand the concept to them.

Voyages of Sinbad - experimental narrative system.

Don't feel pressured. It's been a mere two weeks since I got the first reply to the thread, and that's in pbp terms almost the blin kon an eye. Plus I don't think this format needs a posting pace as quick as what's the normal for D&D-based games, and in fact it'll be better if we take our time...

That's cool. I'm looking forward to see the game started.

    [Adventure]: Land Ho! FWBTHW (DM:H.M.Gimlord,Judge:Ozymandias79)

But Riardon has already acted, so all the plan comes down. In that case, the best course of action is, I think, to Mark the vine with aegis and use Second Wind. At he bad guy's turn, use the Githweave Armor of Aegis when the vine uses the big area attack to reduce the damage, and hope the two...

    [Tavern] Tower's Shard 2011

That was the idea. With aspect of the ram, adding Tipleton's and Blehn turns and using Provocative order (which is only an encounter power) that's what, 4d10+45 damage, if all attacks hit?

    [Adventure]: Land Ho! FWBTHW (DM:H.M.Gimlord,Judge:Ozymandias79)

The vine is the only enemy close enough to Mark, but it won't do much good; it only uses big area attacks. I don't remember if Gensai used Armathor's step this combat; if not the best thing he can do is to attack the vine with his most damaging at-will, then teleport using armanthor's step...

[Adventure]: Bosch's Revenge (DM: Dimsdale, Judge ??)

Words form on the clockwork construct's chest... +++It's all yours+++ ...as he capitalizes on the lich as it's momentarily incapacitated by Zharne's attack. His hammer strikes with such force that Vlastoes flies fifteen feet, landing at Rocco's feet!. The large weapon continues it's swing...

[Adventure]: Bosch's Revenge (DM: Dimsdale, Judge ??)

That's about right, except for one minor detail: shifting provokes combat challenge punishment from fighters, not OAs (shifts are there to avoid OAs in the first place) so the golem first had to use it's move action to dance in front of Rocco saying “hit me!”, then use the rampage as standard...

[Adventure]: Bosch's Revenge (DM: Dimsdale, Judge ??)

I think you're wrong there. The Rampage attack says the golem must first move into the attacked creature's space; this provokes OAs as he's leaving an square adjacent to Rocco, and since he has combat superiority and OAs are interrupts he can actually stops the golem from moving before it starts...

    Testing a theory

I see your point of view. I assure you that I don't think playing a simple character is badwrongfun, but we're talking about two different things as if they were the same: First if playing a one trick pony can be enjoyable (it can, for some people) and how powerful had traditionally versatile...

[Adventure]: Bosch's Revenge (DM: Dimsdale, Judge ??)

Rocco can make an OA on the golem as it has to move into his space to even attack, which means the golem will be Marked even if he fails (unless he doesn't want to mark for some reason), since fighters Mark on a hit or a miss. This means you should be able to make an OA on the lich too, since...

    L4W Discussion Thread V

Prime, one of my characters, attacks again in his never ending quest of provoking rules questions, and by now I think he holds some sort of record. The thing is, an enemy that he has marked attacked another character with a ranged attack. I'm fairly confident that I get both a combat challenge...
