    What are the biggest threats?

The digital initiative is a good point of concern. With all the resources and money they are putting into it, it would be bad if it tanked.

    What are the biggest threats?

It sounds like there will be PrCs in 4E, not sure yet how they will be using them . I think PrCs should be integrated into a class, like a seperate talent tree at higher levels. I would really hate to see PrCs as they are now in 4E.

    D&D 4E 4e Srd

Well, I'm sure the SRD will be coming out in the next couple months for the 3rd party publishers. I think that this version of the OGL will be more restrictive and may limit who can and cannot publish compatible stuff, in some way. As for me as a potential player, I don't think I'll need to...

    What are the biggest threats?

I thought that the Spell system & Alignment were going to be changed for 4E?

    What are the biggest threats?

What do you think the biggest threat to D&D 4E? IOW, what do you think will the biggest mistake WoTC could make with D&D 4E given the info we know now? Me, i'm a little worried about the direction the game is going in the tactical departemnt. It sounds like minis will be an even bigger part of...

Good sources for making a Homebrew World

Yeah, it works pretty good for me. You start in a small village and by time your campaign winds down and characters come together you have all sorts of stuff to work with. Take a lot of notes! All you have to due is fill in the gaps and add a few things after a full campaign and you have a...

Not required for me,but they are much like bacon: they make everything else taste better. :D

    Your Ultimate Homebrew

I'd say that the setting would have to be open an flexible enough to allow the PCs to the heroes.

Good sources for making a Homebrew World

my best single tip would be to start by writing an adventure. Start it in a small town, flesh that out. Come up with a location for the adventure a short distance away from the town, flesh that out. Come up with a plot, sprinkle some flavor over the town. Turn the players loose. I find that a...

Good sources for making a Homebrew World

It's probably better for an overall theory than actually telling how to do it. For that, I though it was pretty good.

Good sources for making a Homebrew World

I found Terry Brooks' book a good resource.

Okay, D&D 3.5 grognards . . . are you *glad* your game is out of print?

I'm happy it's going OOP. Eventually the books will get cheaper and easier to trade for. :D Not that I won't be getting 4E, because I will.

    Flavour matters

The Flavor is what makes D&D, D&D. That's why despite several editions of the rules D&D has always still felt like D&D. Hopefully they keep the flavor in 4E.

    What Makes an Encounter Exciting?

Great locations that are well described by the GM that have some effect on how the encounter goes. Also, the players must feel that they are taking some sort of risk by being there. All great encounters have a heck of a climax.

    Is it still D&D?

I used to have a beef with 3e not being D&D until I realized that infact it was all of the things that D&D was just with new rules. In the end I was confusing the experiences in a different time with actually being D&D, not the actual feeling of the game itself. So, yes 3E was D&D and 4E as it...

    Turning conventions on their heads...

not to mention dungeons don't ahve to be underground. Essentially any large structure that is sectioned off can be a dungeon. I think his point is valid though, the iconic D&D image is chasing the treasure of ancients in dungeons.

On taking power away from the DM

despite all of what has been said here, I still say that the bottomline is that the GM has the right to change any rule or judge them any way he/she wants. If you don't like it, as a player, find a new GM. If all the people involved in the game are friends there can't really be all that many...

    Turning conventions on their heads...

yes, assuming you're playing D&D. I don't think the OP was thinking of a D&D like world.
