    Magic weapons and bounded accuracy

Magic Weapons are ok in terms of bounded accuracy with the exception of certain feats, which are being discussed elsewhere. I fretted about them in the beginning, but now the Paladin (Level 16) in my group has a +3 Vorpal Greatsword and the Wizard (Level 16) is running around with a Wand of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Current take on GWM/SS

Thanks, I googled it and found a good thread on rpg.stackexchange with good counter arguments. I won't derail this thread over it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Current take on GWM/SS

Where is that established - the 1d6 weapon dice for a greatsword? Not saying you're wrong, but I would like to see the source for that.

    D&D 5E (2014) Sorcerers and Versatility

The argument that the Wizards spell picking mechanism is a disadvantage over the Sorcerers is a logical fallacy and shouldn't be entertained any further. If you normalize all factors like player skill out of it, they are at THE VERY WORST equal. There's nothing stopping the Wizard player...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sorcerers and Versatility

The Wizard can take exactly the same spells though, and everything he adds is on top of that. You have to assume both players are equally as careful otherwise your example is meaningless. With an equally as careful Wizard, he will have a distinct advantage over the Sorcerer. The only time the...

D&D 5E (2014) Healing, range and action economy

Yep I agree. Even if you factor in scaling up spell slots to say, 5th level slots, you're still looking at 27.5 damage (Cure Wounds) vs 17.5 (Healing Word). Those 10hp really aren't worth losing the action / moving out of position.

D&D 5E (2014) Healing, range and action economy

I'd probably never use Cure Wounds in combat over Healing Word. In fact I don't think I have. Heal and Mass Heal however, I've used quite a bit. That's when healing spells start to become action economy efficient. One thing to note Clerics have a busy bonus action, Spiritual Weapons, extra...

    D&D 5E (2014) Current take on GWM/SS

My preferred solution is the following: 1. Remove the clause from Crossbow Expert that allows those players to attack from melee without disadvantage. 2. Remove the clause from Sharpshooter that allows them to ignore cover penalties to their attack roll. These two changes don't deal with the...

D&D 5E (2014) DM Help: Tips and Tricks for Monsters In Combat

Yeah I don't usually just have low CR stuff by itself (maybe I should edit my post), combat encounters are more exciting and challenging with a mix of high and low. You are right though. I've ran and played in some hard encounters due to large numbers of creatures that have been worth very...

D&D 5E (2014) DM Help: Tips and Tricks for Monsters In Combat

The biggest difference really I've noticed is what happens before the fight, not during. Terrain and preparedness seem to have the biggest influences on a battle, since battles are over quite quickly. I had my group assault a Drow outpost and then flee for a rest. I decided the Drow would...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition has broken Bounded Accuracy

We create maps using the NWN Toolset which are highly detailed and filled with cover, and we have fought across a variety of terrains from dungeons, assaulting fortresses, Dragons lairs, arenas, crypts, the underdark, and underwater. Across the entire series the ranged fighter out damaged the...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition has broken Bounded Accuracy

When we played with a sharpshooter crossbow expert EK and we were in dungeons guess what.. he tanked. And due to spells he made a better up front melee fighter than the GMW 2h Fighter. Then when it did come to combat in large caverns/outdoors - he totally dominated the melee fighter. The only...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sorcerers and Versatility

That's not a Sorcerer. That's a Paladin/Sorcerer. I think it's been established quite early on that muliclassing is one way out of Sorcerer problems, which only really goes to reinforce the original point.

    D&D 5E (2014) Sorcerers and Versatility

Just for comparisons sake here is the Wizard players spellbook (Level 16 Wizard) in my campaign vs my level 17 Sorcerer spells picked. Also note the Wizard still has a couple of spells to pick to add to his book which he hasn't. Three other things to note - as you level up it becomes easier and...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition has broken Bounded Accuracy

The amusing thing about this "winning" strategy is it assumes the Dragon does not react and sips cups of tea. Last night we were approaching the main lair through a cavern system, which the Dragon had alarm and detect magic spells wired up in it. We knew this from our own detect magic of...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition has broken Bounded Accuracy

In a nice little white room of course. In a dark cavern not so much. I had a longbow Rogue who did two parts of sweet F all damage last night. Try again.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition has broken Bounded Accuracy

Let's not forget the Dragon sits around making cups of tea while you cast a leomunds tiny hut (if you had a safe place to cast it, you wouldn't need it in the first place!).

    D&D 5E Player's Handbook Official Errata

It had multiple possible interpretations IMO, since you can cast a Scorching Ray at ONE target. Since that seemed like a much more natural fit for the Sorcerer and was hardly game breaking we went with that interpretation.
