    D&D 5E (2014) Valuable Stuff

In the game I run after each session I put everything into a spreadsheet for them. But I put it in GP and assume they just get it. In the game I play in, the DM hands out items, we generally have to roleplay out the whole appraising it/selling it in town. I like both for different reasons. The...

    D&D 5E (2014) Classes Rated By Tier

I've found Flaming Sphere to be awesome at lower levels when you're fighting lots of things you can't Hold Person, ie, Undead.

D&D 5E (2014) (CR ratings) Could 6 level 6 characters survive and beat a Young Blue Dragon?

I didn't think about dispel magic truth be told when I was creating it - I didn't picture them doing battle with it on the cliff face, but rather in it's lair. You're right, it would have thrown a spanner in the works for sure.

    D&D 5E (2014) Classes Rated By Tier

That's the game I DM, it has those classes and you're right, they're very powerful. Not every game does have those, but with those abilities it does make for one of the most powerful groups in the game. I also play in a couple of other games though. One we have a Sorc, Fight/Rog, War Cleric...

    D&D 5E (2014) Classes Rated By Tier

The Sorcerer is the worst class in the game IMO at low levels (prior to level 5). There have been so many times I've thought in my head "I wish we had a Wizard instead". Too limited to do anything, lack of spells means they can't really contribute to the exploration pillar of the game. The...

    D&D 5E (2014) Classes Rated By Tier

I have a level 16 Abjurer in my group and it's an amazing class. He has just as many HP effectively as the Paladin, he's amazing at shutting down enemy casters, and throwing his ward around to soak damage is effectively a form.of healing. He also doesnt really need con saves because its quite...

    D&D 5E (2014) Classes Rated By Tier

I more or less agree entirely with these ratings, Zard, except perhaps the Sorcerer. They shine at mid levels, but at low levels they're utterly horrible, and at high levels they're kinda meh. Edit: I'd probably consider the Barbarian a bump as well. They can be interesting in the exploration...

D&D 5E (2014) What to do with players that always roll well

I've been rolling so well on roll20 lately that I suspect their RNG is broken. I crit a player four times in one combat few sessions back, and I recently rolled this: 2d20, result: 20, 20 2d6, result: 6, 6 2d6, result: 6, 5 2d6, result: 6, 5 All in one roll. And yes, that's a Vorpal...

D&D 5E (2014) (CR ratings) Could 6 level 6 characters survive and beat a Young Blue Dragon?

The recent Dragon fight that I ran felt satisfactory. The party felt challenged and they were a bit stressed half way through the fight, but only as a DM knows I never felt they were in serious danger. Level 14 at the time - Lore Bard, Light Cleric, Abjurer Wizard, Vengeance Paladin. The...

D&D 5E (2014) Just About Sick Of Darkvision.

A non human Rogue will likely have a passive perception of 16 from levels 1-3. Then come level 4 they'd likely have 18 (Our Rogue4/Ftr1 has 19), or possible even 23 if they took the observant feat. Once they start getting up a bit in levels, they can spot anything except the most carefully...

D&D 5E (2014) What aspects of play do you most enjoy?

As you can probably guess, I enjoy the combat pillar of the game the most. I also do enjoy exploration. Not really a fan of social, although I usually end up doing a lot of talking, despite playing characters with 8 charisma.

    D&D 5E (2014) High-level no-save spells in practice

I've given it some more thought, and ultimately, I'm arguing on principle, not on practice. There's parts of 5e (in fact it's core design philosophy) that annoys me in principle. I'm not 'afraid' of thom, I just think it cheapens the experience. It certainly cheapens *my* experience, because I...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Turn Undead conundrum

It's very useful as a crowd "control" spell when you're overwhelmed with Undead. However sometimes it can backfire. I've had fleeing undead pull other undead/minions from other rooms when this has been used carelessly in dungeons. Other times, I've seen it used very effectively. I've only...

    D&D 5E (2014) High-level no-save spells in practice

DM freedom is a flaw for me. It's a feature however, and probably a good one. It's impact on me in practice is fairly negligible, but in principle it's one I oppose. Truth be told I much prefer playing a game than living out some narrative fantasy. I much much prefer pathfinders approach than...

    D&D 5E (2014) High-level no-save spells in practice

Which is interesting because I see you arguing very gamey tactics in other threads when your theorizing what is possible with spells. This is why you have consistent rules that are a little more gamey and abstract, because humans are not consistent across all things.

    D&D 5E (2014) High-level no-save spells in practice

Ot you can fall back or true tried and tested conventions that were put in earlier editions of the game for a reason. I see people running streams on 5e a lot now, which is great, but I also see a lot of DMs mucking rules up, nerfing things they consider "overpowered", and not getting a handle...

D&D 5E (2014) (CR ratings) Could 6 level 6 characters survive and beat a Young Blue Dragon?

Dragons have a couple of design flaws. Their DPR is all in their breath weapon, and they don't have the HP to stand up in a toe to toe fight. This makes them quite a swingy fight. Roll a lot of breath recharges? The fight will be deadly. Bad luck on the breath recharges? The fight will be...

    D&D 5E (2014) High-level no-save spells in practice

The more power in the DMs hands to make up things as they happen, the greater the percentage that a player will get screwed over somewhere. I've seen plenty of DMs screw over players in 5e already watching streams and such.
