    Let's Talk About Metacurrency

Right but every time the previous blows landed, there is a very high probability that the fiction was about getting hit: bruises, blood and the whole bit. I have never seen in 40 years, running for literally hundreds of people,a table that did not describe hit point damage as, well, damage 95%...

Yeah. I had a dad who was 20 years Army, then I joined, then I ended up in the construction sector. Eric's Grandma is the only thing reigning me in at this point...

Gotcha. I misunderstood. I thought folks were worried about fan conversions.

    Let's Talk About Metacurrency

The goblin doesn't stab you in the luck. Yes, yes, there is a handwavy explanation about hit points being everything but meat, but we all know they represent injury -- even if it is John McClane kinds of injury. It's disingenuous to try and wink-wink that away.

I don't understand how converting monsters would be a problem. Wouldn't access to those monsters in one's system of choice increase the chance people who wouldn't otherwise have bought the thing do so? Wasn't that the whole method behind the 5E Kingmaker bestiary?

As I understand it, there is an effort to convert this to Shadowdark. Does anyone know how that effort is progressing?

What is find interesting in the subtext of much of this discussion is that while almost everyone seems to.enjoy comic books in the same univers often having different tones and aesthetics, many folks really hate it when comic book movies in the sane universe aren't tonally lock step. Weird.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

The line between "homage" and "pastiche" and "copyright violation" seems fuzzier than ever. Maybe try being original?

    Let's Talk About Metacurrency

The player decisions are always meta to some degree. TTRPGS are not perfect simulations, so at some point the player is going to look to their character sheet, or make a decision based on what they know about the rules, the GM or just TTRPGS in general.

    Let's Talk About Metacurrency

Hard disagree. Hit points are an abstraction, but they still represent something real in the fiction that the character can experience, and the potion is a real thing in the fiction too. There might be an argument that spending hit dice on a short rest is a metacurrency, but that's fuzzy.

The best explanation I have seen is probably Apocalypse World 2E.

    Let's Talk About Metacurrency

I don't think that has much to do with it. By definition, a diagetic resource would fit the nature and tone of the game being played, realistic, silly, or otherwise. I don't think it is especially complicated: metacurrency is a player tool, not a character tool. It can get fuzzy when the...

    Shadowdark Shadowdark Organized Play?

One of the New England regional conventions I regularly attend and run games is doing a big Shadowdark tournament with a module written just for the event. I am excited to run a table.

    D&D 3.x I miss 3.5 edition

Are you suggesting that D&D 3.5 was not specially subject to min-maxing? Because if so,I am sorry to say i really can't take your view on the subject seriously.

    D&D 3.x I miss 3.5 edition

Again, players ruined 3.5. They decided that all they wanted was min maxing, and it literally ruined the game.

AI/LLMs Hasbro CEO Reiterates That AI Isn't Used to Make D&D Because of the Game's Audience and Creators

You can't control that. Nor should you. Every generation decides what is "cool." Just because you hate GenAI doesn't mean GenAlpha is wrong for embracing it. This idea that there is a fundamental, objective "right" regarding AI generated content is old man BS. The world is rapidly changing...
