Homebrew Whacky Half-Formed Idea for Armor as DR...

So what happens with multiple dice? A great sword (2d6) would be less effective than a great axe (1d12) against heavy armor (3 steps). 2d6 > 2d4 > 2d3 > 2d2 vs d12 > d10 > d8 > d6. What about additional damage dice like sneak attack, elemental damage or bonus dice from other spells or effects?

    Shadowdark Unless I am wrong

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Or this. Or this. I wonder if you are universalizing something that was very specific to.your gaming circle?

    Shadowdark Unless I am wrong

Right. I'm saying they should not be. It isn't a measure of how smart the character seems. That's up to the player. It is a concrete measure of the character's aptitude for learned facts and arcane magic. Better to call it "Scholarship" or even just use it as an Approach aka "Intellectual."...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

FUNDED IN 5 MINUTES (because we set the funding bar so low we couldn't manufacture one of these things for that!)

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Also: I don't know who needs to hear this, but no one cares how fast your KS was funded. It isn't a real metric.

    Shadowdark Unless I am wrong

Threads like this one reinforce the idea to me that stats that are "characteristics" (like Intelligence and Charisma) are a bad idea. Your ability scores should not limit your roleplaying or invite the GM to penalize you further.

It's not you, it me, but still: every time you come in and take control of the discussion, I tune right out.

    Superman: Still Awesome

I like Cavill a lot, and I think he made a great Superman, but i think Snyder's well documented distaste for "optimistic" superheroes really hurt those films.

    D&D General Summoner Thoughts (w/Rum)

I think there is something to be said for the idea. Some players would certainly enjoy a summoner class built around this concept. The hardest balance to achieve isn't so much the power of the summons, I don't think (that's just math) but the versatility. If the summoner can replicate or better...

    Superman: Still Awesome

I just watched it again and it is still amazing. It is so unapologetically in-genre, embracing what makes comics and Supes so wonderful. I can't wait for Man of Tomorrow.

D&D 5E (2024) How do you handle surprised but won initiative?

Even if this were true -- and sure, I guess, why not? -- it doesn't figure into actually playing the game. It is meaningless statement to make with no bearing or value on the reality of play. Why even bring it up?

    Shadowdark Unless I am wrong

There is no point in SD where you will find a sign indicating You Must Be This Tall To Ride. Also, that 3 Con character won't be in danger for long...

    Let's Talk About "Intended Playstyle"

    This is satire, one presumes.

D&D 5E (2024) How do you handle surprised but won initiative?

Does the concealed attacker still get Advantage and sneak attack/whatever?

    D&D 3.x I miss 3.5 edition

I'm sure this will bring out the armchair CFOs, but what I really miss about 3.5 is the release schedule. I miss things like environment books, and monster books, and real specific niche products brought to.you by official D&D. Settings supported by actual lines. Even splat books could be super...

    General star wars talk/discussion/complaining

So none of the recent books are any good?

    General star wars talk/discussion/complaining

Sure That doesn't mean it was good.

    General star wars talk/discussion/complaining

I have a theory that the Heir to the Empire books strongly benefit from being the first competent star wars folks had seen in a long time. They aren't actually great. Dark.Empire is probably the best post RotJ published in the era.

D&D 5E (2024) How do you handle surprised but won initiative?

There is a huge excluded middle here. Granted, I think D&D 5E is trying to serve that middle. It just isn't great at it.
