It's that time of year again

Yesterday marked the official kickoff for Penny Arcade's annual Child's Play Charity. You can read all about it on the site itself, but the general idea is that we buy toys and games off the Amazon wishlist for the children's hospital of our choice, or simply donate cash. The loot goes towards...

    Rediculous adventuring groups...

The odds of such a creature being created in a magical D&D world are non-zero. When that creature is inevitably created, odds are even more unlikely that it will settle down to a peaceful life of farming, and odds are even slimmer that a small town of farmers would be more likely to allow him...

    Canadian high school football?

I'm pretty sure it exists. It doesn't carry the reality-warping importance that it supposedly does in the US, though. I had friends in high school who played football, but I'm pretty sure it was city league and not school teams. Either way, I know my school didn't have a team.. we mostly cared...

Tell me that D&D 3.0/3.5 isn't really like this

Obi-wan: Readied action do 'disarm' the next enraged former student to violate his airspace. The rules cover everything, provided your Applied Rules Knowledge is high enough. ;) --Impeesa--

    Eldritch Knight, Effective or Defective?

Simple and effective. Practised Spellcaster is another must-have. Also, with the Twilight armor enhancement (BoED), you can cast in mithril full plate and shield if you feel like it. Plus, channel spell + prismatic spray is just too damn fun. :) --Impeesa--

    Animal Companion morbidly annoying?

I can see something like that. I can also see evil druids as embodying the idea that, in reality, nature is rarely kind. Think dominance, survival of the fittest, culling the herd, etc. I can imagine such a druid getting away with not shedding a tear if their companion dies in a reasonably even...

    Must...get...Perform..up

Exactly. The Stormsinger has a similar ability, doing lightning damage equal to your perform check... I've heard at least one person propose that the best way to use this was with a 200-piece marching band playing the 1812 Overture. :) --Impeesa--

    Stress!!

Man, I was about to say the same thing. Supposedly it's even more effective for the women, though. At the, ah, culmination of the female's efforts, parts of her brain relating to things like anxiety and awareness completely shut down. --Impeesa--

    A question for the ladies

Well, if there's one thing the magic of the intarweb is good for, it's never having to say "I should try that just to see what it looks like". ;) --Impeesa--

What's the Most Asinine Character Idea/Concept You've Dealt With?

Odd, I've seen a psychic kitten played before too. In this case, the game was Alternity, and the kitten was a mutant with wings and humanlike mental scores. Also, since someone mentioned mopey drow outcasts... sometime I'd like to play a good drow, an outcast from his society. He'd be a...

    WoW Rpg...any good?

Heh. In theory, yes, but I think I've got enough on the table with my regular group already. Thanks for the offer, though. :) --Impeesa--

    Explain Canada

Finish this sentence: "Nice weather, ___?" ;) --Impeesa--

    Explain Canada

Eh? It's the same as the American "huh" or "hey", sort of a 'what do you think?' tacked on to the end of the sentence. --Impeesa--

    WoW Rpg...any good?

Not sure... I have all the '1st ed' Warcraft RPG books, but so far I've passed on the WoW RPG after taking a flip through it at the store. It's a massive book, priced accordingly, and as near as I can tell 90% of it is stuff I have in the PHB, stuff I have in the older Warcraft books, or stuff...

Sword and Sorcery has been done to death.

Well, I know one DM who hates having psionics in his D&D game. He doesn't think psionics sucks or is overpowered. He just has flavor issues - to him, psionics are the domain of science fiction. It's basically magic with a fresh coat of pseudoscience paint to fit in to a high-tech setting, and...

    October OT Title

On a tangential note, I remember sometime a year or two ago, there was a rash of proud new parent posts around here. I counted back nine months to see what the special occasion was, and the only explanation was GenCon. --Impeesa--

    Weapon Names

In one game, the rogue named her rapiers stabby and pokey, or something to that effect. Another guy, a fighter, had a bow, a falchion, and a longsword, named twangy, slashy, and other slashy (respectively). There may also have been a morningstar named bonky. At some point, I said that while my...

Best (and worse) new base classes from WotC

Don't think of them as magical power. Really, when it comes to the blasting, they're more like weak archers. --Impeesa--

    Another Immortals Handbook thread

I hear rumors of one, but the more I hear, the more it sounds like not so much D&D any more. ;) --Impeesa--

    Another Immortals Handbook thread

Say, you know what would be great? If someone would write a book covering all aspects of playing and running a deity-level campaign within the Dungeons & Dragons rules. :) --Impeesa--
