    D&D 5E (2014) 5e fey knight

If Cutting Words is your thing, then yeah you have to go Bard. And take at least 5 levels, to get Font of Inspiration. Cutting Words 4/day is good, but 4/short rest is amazing. In that case I suggest you go with what Kobold Stew offered: Fighter 2 / Pal 7 / Bard 5. If you want to mainline...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlocks seem pointless

Warlocks are amazing, but they're not for everyone. What do you want to do with your character? Post some details and you might get suggestions. Or is this just venting?

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e fey knight

I've got to make a case for multiclassing into Warlock. Fey Patron Chain Pact Warlock is such a flavorful match with an Ancients Oath paladin. You Oath is not just to "Ancients" in general; it's also a Pact to a specific Faerie King. Just double down on that Green Knight vibe, and rock that...

D&D 5E (2014) Ideas for an evil force trapped in rock

Quick anecdote: I once ran a game based on the notion of an evil contained within rock. It was a one-shot Halloween adventure at a lonely abbey. The quick summary is that some of its stone was quarried from rock that contained a vampire. So: vampiric abbey. The not so quick story was that the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Creating a Lost/Ruined City

There's a subsite of Slate that's all about weird destinations. Like this town that was claimed by water, then re-emerged: http://www.slate.com/blogs/atlas_obscura/2014/06/17/villa_epecu_n_in_argentina_is_a_former_resort_village_turned_flooded_ghost.html?wpisrc=obnetwork They've got categories...

    D&D 5E (2014) Fighter/Ranger optimization help

I agree with Rune. You'll really miss that extra attack. Can you elaborate on what you want to do / what you want this character to accomplish? Looking at what you've got so far, it appears you want: 1. Ranged attacks 2. "Leader/commander" 3. Abilities that let you position teammates 4. A...

CITY OF BRASS: A New RPG Electronic Tool Suite Is Glimpsed On The Horizon!

Agreed on the undesirability of subscription. I understand why the dev prefers that model; it makes sense for them. Not for me. Alas. I like the clean look of this product. Maybe one day a standalone D&D app will come. Something similar to War Room.

D&D 5E (2014) Primeval Awareness and other hidden gems

Well, that'll teach me for replying from my phone. I recalled there was a weapon that didn't get all the benefits, and for some reason I had it as the staff. Thanks for the correction and no worries, you weren't snarky.

D&D 5E (2014) Primeval Awareness and other hidden gems

Read the feat again, carefully. Quarterstaff doesn't benefit from all the features of the feat. EDIT: whoops, remembered this incorrectly. On unseen servant: I don't think the servant has a fly speed. I get the impression it's pretty much an invisible servant.

D&D 5E (2014) 5E has brought this old gmaer back to D&D after 8 years!

Ha, wow. I used to go camping near Grayling in high school. Some epic 4th of July bashes. What a fun, unexpected connection. And a reminder of what a good connector D&D is, with it's long history and worldwide spread.

D&D 5E (2014) 5E has brought this old gmaer back to D&D after 8 years!

Welcome back, Mavkatzer. I too started in the early 80s with Basic. Bounced around White Wolf in high school (of course) and a bunch of other systems, but D&D was always there. Having moved to Seattle I've been lucky enough to be part of the various devs' playtest groups for 3, 4, and 5. Each...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sorcerers: Best Ranged Gish?

I think it's an interesting beginning! Would like to see a specific build? Right now you've got "a 5th level sorcerer can cast a 3rd level spell 5 times a day." What's the trick/interesting combo? How are you leveraging Haste spamming to extract extra effects other than benefiting from the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Monk/Sorceror

So what'd you go with? Dex-based Eldritch Knight?

D&D 5E (2014) Feat to negate disadvantage in casting spells at close range?

Consider two levels of rogue (start as rogue, for the extra skills). Cunning Action gives you a bonus action with which you can take the Disengage action. Solves your problem right there, at a cost of two levels but a gain of sneak attack, expertise, two additional skills, an every-turn bonus...

D&D 5E (2014) Primeval Awareness and other hidden gems

On that note: Prestidigitation. I cast this spell at least 10x a game session. One of its uses is to clean, and adventurers get DIRTY. Not when this spell's available. All my PCs (and his companions) are always dry and fresh. It's also handy to get rid of bloodstains and other inconvenient...

    D&D 5E (2014) Paladin/Cleric Multiclass help

I'm a big fan of Shield Mastery + Duelist (see http://www.enworld.org/forum/showthread.php?367865-Bare-chested-battle-rager-the-shield-using-Barbarian). But I saw your post about Polearm Master and shield & spear: alas, they don't work together. Polearm Master isn't usable with a spear. Only...

Help! I Have An Indecisive Player!

Fascinating discussion. Glad to hear things are moving forward. Someone else mentioned anxiety, and I agree: your player has anxiety issues. I think your instinct to avoid an overt timer is correct. It's humiliating to have someone loudly count down from 10 to 1, and only exacerbates the...

D&D 5E (2014) How well can your players and NPCs maintain concentration for spells?

I LOVE the Concentration mechanic. It's clever game design. And as a player, it adds a fun element to spell selection. The optimal setup is to maintain a Concentration spell, while casting other spells. The fun is in deciding which Concentration to cast and maintain. Good games = interesting...

D&D 5E (2014) Unarmed Strike. One damage plus strength?

It is an interesting point, and might be RAW. But I don't think it's RAI. Stronger creatures should hit harder. That's in keeping with how everything else works; not adding Str bonus to a damaging attack would be inconsistent. Compare to a net, which does no damage. Ability mod isn't added to...
