Most Anticipated RPG of 2017: The Official Poll!

Looks like I was a little too late announcing my new RPG!

[UPDATED] Green Ronin Finds Religion In D&D 5E's BOOK OF THE RIGHTEOUS

I'm really jazzed to be a part of the project, and really hope everyone else is excited, too! Book of the Righteous was extremely influential in my development as a DM and as a game designer. It came out at just the right time for me, and was what I used as the pantheon for my 3rd Edition...

New D&D Survey: What Do you Want From Older Editions?

While I appreciate the kind words, I'm not sure I would even go that far. Look, I can be dead wrong as easily as the next person. I've had plenty of ideas about game design over the years that I no longer agree with; indeed, there are plenty of things I've designed that, looking back on them...

New D&D Survey: What Do you Want From Older Editions?

This is, where I believe, the change was made, from the original maintain to the word find, but I can't say for certain, as I don't have my files in front of me. As for the rest, well, I guess I must be a truly lazy game designer, since it seems to me like putting the burden of determining how...

New D&D Survey: What Do you Want From Older Editions?

I'll be honest, I don't really know; when 4E was being designed and developed, I was running the Star Wars RPG line, so I didn't have a lot of insight into who was responsible for what. Sorry.

New D&D Survey: What Do you Want From Older Editions?

Actually, the original text (which may not have made it through editing; not sure) said that the ranger can only maintain so many poultices at a time, the idea being that the ranger needs to keep the herbs they use fresh, keep them from drying out, etc. and that as you gain levels you get more...

New D&D Survey: What Do you Want From Older Editions?

First: Wow. Lazy game design? Really? Second: What makes you think I had anything to do at all with the warlord? Third: ...but you're fine with the Battlemaster, which I did help design?

    DDI VT Beta thread

I actually ran the entire Age of Worms campaign for my 3E group in this fashion, with a virtual battlemat on my big screen TV. Some advice for overcoming the issues that you had: Put something else on the screen when non-combat scenarios are taking place. I put the art from the Age of Worms...

    New Essentials Builds!

The thing is, there's already a lot of stuff out there for the staff fighter thanks to the tempest fighter stuff. Double-ended defensive weapon that effectively gives the same bonus as carrying a light shield isn't enough? (Staff Fighting feat) Knockdown assault isn't good enough? Blinding...

    Assassin Feedback

Actually, Brutal 1 adds an additional .5 to the average damage, hence d6 -> 4 damage on average, fullblade is d12 -> 6.5 average damage. Now, if you want to talk about the executioner's axe, that's a bigger difference, since it's Brutal 2 that puts it at 7.5 average damage, but of course kukri...

    Assassin Feedback

I'm sorry, I thought you were referring to the "using Dex for attacks" part of Attack Finesse, not the damage bonus. That was my mistake for misreading your question. The extra damage follows all existing extra damage rules. If you don't deal damage, you don't get extra damage.

    Assassin Feedback

Actually, the intent is that it doesn't offer the choice. If you want to kill the guy, just kill the guy. If you use the poison, you're making a deliberate attempt to do something to the person other than kill them. Besides, things like being driven permanently insane more or less equals death...

    PE: Assassin Spoilers

Note that the executioner assassin also gets a ki focus. The weapon-specific at-wills are really supposed to be situational-use attacks; most of the time, the assassin is making melee basic attacks with whatever weapon he's best with.

    Hamlet's Hit Points?

I picked the book up at GenCon. I'm still in the process of reading it, and am enjoying it a lot so far, though it's been slow going because I keep pulling out my copy of Hamlet to read the actual scenes that Robin is referencing, and then getting sucked into the book for a while. It's a bit...

Let's Talk About WotC DM Supplements.

But enough talk; have at you! (I don't care how bad Richter's voice acting is, I LOVE that little speech).

No more WotC Star Wars site

Christopher Perkins was the lead designer of the original core rulebook, with Owen Stephens and myself freelance designing. Gary Sarli developed the book. I feel, and the others can chime in here if they want, that the bulk of the design of the book was a team effort, with some directives coming...
