    Why Grab Does Not Work

Also, a good way to keep grab from being an action sink on the monsters' part is just have an "and grabbed" rider on some of its attacks. I know at least a few monsters do that now...

Lessons from Game Day [Spoiler Free]

So, Jonathan Tweet mentioned on his blog on Employee Game Day that he liked using transparency when teaching people the game, so I tried doing the same all day yesterday, and I think it works out fantastic for teaching the game. Rather than just reading the stat block, though, I just made sure...

    I attended DDWWGD in Seattle.

I also had a blast yesterday. I met some ENWorlders, too! Probably met more than identified themselves to me.

    Rituals too easy and cheap?

Eh, you'd be surprised how quickly they add up, especially at heroic level. Last night we had a bunch of major revelations in Chris Perkins' game (discovered that the town Magistrate's wife was not who she claimed to be!) and every time we went to discuss our secret plans I was spending 30g to...

Opinions, please! Is this forum valuable to you as a separate forum?

From a completely selfish standpoint, I'd like to see it merged with General, because I'd love it if I could get more people talking about Star Wars here. ENWorld has a ton of awesome people on it, and I'd love to be able to talk with those people about Star Wars. As is, despite its popularity...

    Orcs preview

Let me tell you guys, we fought one of those bloodragers last night in Chris Perkins' game, and they are some nasty dudes. In the span of just a few turns over half of our party went from un-bloodied to bloodied thanks to other bad guys in the room (some orc archer minions, a dinosaur, an ogre...

    Neceros' Landscape Character Record Sheet

Sorry, I've not seen the final sheets for D&D. Just the basic sheet.

    Neceros' Landscape Character Record Sheet

For the record, I've been using the Landscape sheet ever since Logan first passed it around for us to check out. I also don't use power cards--just personal preference.

Serenity Role Playing Game. What is the good, the bad, and the ugly?

One thing I think the system did do well was the way it handled flaws. Typically, I think perks & flaws systems almost always fail with what they set out to do. I liked that in Serenity your flaws really provided you with benefits when they came into play during the session. I thought it...

    My WoTC Interview

Without sounding like total corporate shill #23756, this is one of the things I personally am most excited about. When I get home at night, if I didn't bring any work home with me usually I crack open a book or flick on the Xbox. Having the option to come home and hop online to see if anyone...

    Any high level playtest journals?

Dave Noonan's Thursday night game is in epic levels. I'm pretty sure his recent posts about his game cover his game. Logan Bonner and Rich Baker also play in that game, so look for their posts.

D&D is dying by the hour

Uh, I don't know about "massive silence" from us designers. We're all still around, and posting. Maybe there have been a few less posts lately, but that's probably also due to large chunks of the D&D team being on the road traveling to major cities to do media interviews. Though I'm not going...

    WoTC Rodney: Economy of actions

And I think this is absolutely right. There's a wide, wide array of ways this can be done. I hope people will note that the economy of actions is just one facet of a game system, whether it be D&D or a board game or a TCG or whatever, and by no means should the discussion exclude other...

    WoTC Rodney: Economy of actions

You *could* do that, and it's certainly a legitimate design. I, personally, would not design a system like that because 1) I want the player who invests the resources in getting the follower to be able to control the follower, since it was their resources invested; 2) it does nothing to solve...

    WoTC Rodney: Economy of actions

Wow, good discussion on this. Glad to see that my thoughts mirror many of those you guys have been discussing. When talking about summoned monsters, cohorts, hirelings, animal companions, etc. a lot of people have posited several ideas for how to "balance" the extra actions the extra creature...

    Good podcasts?

If you like Star Wars Saga Edition, you might like the Order 66 Podcast. The first few episodes were a bit rough, but they've gotten their formula down a little better. They do some comedy bits which are hit-and-miss, but they usually pick one big topic per show and stick with it.
