I think spellcasters should get one less spell slot per level, and spells (and spell like abilities) should again provoke attacks of opportunity.

I don't think a DM choosing not to use an optional rule in the DMG should be considered a red flag. With custom backgrounds being moved to the DMG, they should no longer be the expected default from players, just like players shouldn't expect the DM will use flanking rules or the Honor Ability...

I am operating under the assumption that wotc is not hopelessly incompetent about designing from survey results after doing so successfully for a literal decade. I am confident that onednd will satisfy the vast majority of players and at least be 'OK' for anyone who doesn't absolutely love it...

The treasure hoards for Levels 0-4 are pretty stingy - unless the party pools all their money towards gearing a single PC. The 5-11 hoards will give more gold, so likely by level 6 the party should have enough money for everyone that wants plate to get it.

The system works for me and my group, and thousands of other groups. Lots of people like attrition play and don't want to see it reworked. Your perspective isn't universal.

Exactly. D&D has always been designed for attrition-based play and 5e is no different.

I have played 6+ encounter/day games in both 5e and other editions of d&d (B/X, Pf1). Just because that's not how you play doesn't mean nobody does.

Crawford's approach to 5e since 2015 has been empowering rules lawyers and clinging to the exact RAW instead of encouraging common sense and table rulings or clarifying design intent. D&D2024 will double down on this approach with Crawford instead of Mearls as the primary project lead.
