D&D 5E (2014) D&D Lingua Franca, or 5e really, REALLY needs to create it's own new "space"

Implement is not so great, as it's non-descriptive and excluding. There's a long road between Armour Class, to hit or abilities and implements or martial manoeuvrings - a road littered with gamers lost to tabletop RPGS.

    D&D 5E (2014) Who's given up on D&D Next?

I may be mistaken on this, but I seem to remember reading an opinion from Paizo. I thought they preferred a bigger dedicated RPG market with a healthy D&D and a healthy Pathfinder over a larger share of a smaller dedicated market?

    D&D 5E (2014) Who's given up on D&D Next?

:) If I wished to avoid discussing degrees of death I should of used something like run-down - however, for the many hardback rule books style of play I don't think it's far off. If 4e looked like making enough money to justify a 5e instead of a Next, an edition rather than an iteration, the new...

    D&D 5E (2014) Who's given up on D&D Next?

D&D remains the most recognised RPG brand for the public at large - for a hobby that hasn't been recruiting young people, which also faces strong competition from videogames and augmented reality; and that is already deeply fragmented - a major fail for Next would mean a loss of RPG customer...

    D&D 5E (2014) Who's given up on D&D Next?

This goes one of two ways. There is a core game that appeals to a wider audience, which then supports the continued existence of more crunchy/ complex/ simulationist layers of play. Or there is a crunchy/ complex/ simulationist core which doesn't earn enough money or recruit enough players to...

I'm new to all of this

The RPG Cookbook covers the types of RPGs, shaping campaigns, GM and gameplay 'tips' . . . Alongside it there's also an Old School clone of the original game to try out for free, which includes step-by-steps on adventure and campaign building suitable for most fantasy systems.

Everything I learned in business school I already knew from gaming

Not meaningless, but the connections between learning enterprise skills probably don't lie in a game so much as the hobby. Taking account of other peoples' perspectives is quite a valuable business skill, which can be fostered through RPGs by in-game role-playing, collaborating during play...

Everything I learned in business school I already knew from gaming

RPGs are stacked with enterprise skills and opportunities to get involved in enterprise. There's the added bonus that promoting RPGs in this light is difficult to argue against/ focuses on pointing in the direction of concrete 'productions'.

A cheap alternative to Campaign Coins

Every GM should have a hoard like that - just so we can occasionally reach into it and then brandish the loot in front of players' greedy eyes - before sometimes slowly pouring it back in and closing the lid when the gameplay snatches the prize away

    Anybody else have this problem?

Such a good post for laying bare the group dynamics that can mess with the fun. Headed towards exactly the same option as you suggest as I read - which might go down well if the spotlight item is awesome, e.g. a cool figure or dice. Figure/ s with a spotlight marker comes to mind as they...

A cheap alternative to Campaign Coins

Hi Morrus seems to have come-up with an ideal way to place some quality coinage like yours in the players' hands - while scaling currency across a full campaign using inexpensive bullion and jewellery for larger sums. Reminds me of the gems included in the old Buccaneer boardgame and of Dread...

Help with public library children's program one-shot

Happen to be in mid conversation with some librarians - initially via the Google Library Gaming group - about free resources, eventing and gamifying RPG e-commerce, family-friendly play and playing with kids. Posted this on Friday: RPGs and the Killer App and another post that might be worth a...

A cheap alternative to Campaign Coins

This finished Kickstarter is getting real good reports from the backers as they get their coins. The picture shown is a lot of treasure/ a lot of money - but their $50 for 50 gold, silver, bronze - wish I'd backed it for the metal :) The project's funded, but there's a message address and the...

As a player, do you have a preferred gender for your GM?

A question more loaded than a pump-action shotgun. I'll just keep the powder dry on that one :)
