WotC Why WotC SHOULD Make A New Setting

If I was forced to choose, I would definitely take a big fat Eberron adventure anthology over a new setting.

Is this what it feels like to be a forever GM?

At the very least, it helps the kind of player who can't remember what to roll and how. Just push the button, Kevin.

    D&D 5E (2024) High Level 5.5E: Building Encounter Chains

As I asked before, how does limiting it to only Hard encounters affect that number, if at all? Obviously, most people don't run high level games, so I am probably wishing in the wind here.

WotC Why WotC SHOULD Make A New Setting

One of these days I should pick up both Ravnica -- about which I know nothing other than I think it is a world city? -- and Theros -- because I love Greek inspired stuff and I understand that it has "mythic" rules for monsters. I don't explicitly dilike M:tG or its worlds, I just want something...

    D&D 5E (2024) High Level 5.5E: Building Encounter Chains

Thanks. As a reminder, I am looking for help figuring out the actual design part: how many creatures, what CR, how many encounters, etc.

    D&D 5E (2024) High Level 5.5E: Building Encounter Chains

As I said, I have been running mostly big set pieces where the party can just let loose. But a player has explicitly asked for more attrition based design. Hence why I am asking.

WotC Why WotC SHOULD Make A New Setting

To be clear, I love it when it happens, but it does not happen that often. I was convinced by the previews (especially the art in the MM) to buy D&D 5E 2024 and I wish I had not fallen for it. But even so, I would still buy a new (not MtG) full setting for 5E from WotC if it looked like...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Tell that to the hot dog fundamentalists.

What if they are all hard+?

Trailer Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Season 1) trailer

As a GenXer rather than millenial, I can't say HP means much to me, personally. But I understand its popularity, and I feel bad for those torn between their love of a formative series and their desire not to support its creator. Every generation has some of that. I am sure there are ways to...

WotC Why WotC SHOULD Make A New Setting

Yup. I admitted as such -- along with admitting it is a little silly. Often, our love for things we discovered in our formative years (I discovered D&D at 10 via the Red Box) is a little irrational. It is anchored by nostalgia and even a little melancholy. There IS something about that ampersand...

I surveyed 200+ TTRPG players on what they wanted from a game. Here's what it taught me about campaign longevity.

@AstroArtificer can you give us a legend for the chart? Thanks.

Is this what it feels like to be a forever GM?

Online has its challenges, but I have found that the same players that are disengaged using a VTT would be disengaged at the meatspace table too.

    D&D 5E (2024) High Level 5.5E: Building Encounter Chains

Do the 5.5 encounter budget rules actually work? Or should I continue to rely on the LevelUp ones?

Here's where we dovetail in to the "smart chaotic evil" thread?

    D&D 5E (2024) High Level 5.5E: Building Encounter Chains

The party has magic items, but not oo many that have charges or are otherwise limited use. What is CS? Counterspell? No rests at all. The point is to have them have to choose what to use. Note that this is based on a player request. What about numbers? How many enemies? What CRs?

    D&D 5E (2024) High Level 5.5E: Building Encounter Chains

Thanks for the response, but what I am really interested is the nuts and bolts of high level 5/5E encounter design, in order to get to a point where resource attrition matters and players feel like they are making meaningful choices with regards to what abilities to use in any given round of any...

    D&D 5E (2024) High Level 5.5E: Building Encounter Chains

My 5E 2024 (5.5E) campaign is reaching its climax. The PCs are currently 15th level, and depending on whether they decide to tie up some loose ends, or decide to rush the BBEG, they will either be 15th or 17th level for the "final battle". A detail that may be important: there is no cleric in...
