Name Five Things You've Done That Others Probably Have Not

    1. Spent my first night in Europe sleeping underneath a front yard swingset. 2. Had a 50-caliber machine gun pointed at me during a Central Maine lobster festival. 3. Got mugged after a minor car accident (by an absolutely not-connected-to-the-other-driver person). 4. Toured the entire steam...

    Late 19th Century Paranormal History

See www.casebook.org for some Ripperesque goodness. You could also Google "Madame Blavatsky", but that may conflict with the "what actually happened" clause.

Your Best and Worst Sci-Fi TV Shows!

I painfully recall an episode where the height of court entertainment included the 25th century's ultimate art form: Roller disco with silky sashes.

    One Scene Movies

I never saw the film, but the fun folks who worked at the local 2nd-run theater a few years back would occasionally show that scene (unannounced) during the Coming Attractions. No voiceover, no credits, just BANG! Then the actual, announced film would start. Half of the audience wouldn't know...

    News On Angelfire?

Agreed. If anyone's looking for a full set at an astoundingly reasonable price, try http://www.miniaturesbuyersclub.com (formerly d20books.com--Jeff's got a good thing going).

    vicious attack on nerds

I'm well aware of how contracts can be a major negative when it comes to cellular service. I wasn't aware that nerds were even part of the equation. Maybe that "can you hear me now?" guy from the Verizon ads?

Cheesy old genre movies that you like anyway

Good heavens--I'm not the only person to have seen and remembered it? Low-budget tentacular goodness.

    Movie Quotes Fun!

"When they was no meat we ate fowl, when there was no fowl we ate crawdad. And when there was no crawdad to be found, we ate sand." "You ate what?" "We ate sand." "You ate sand?" "That's right." One of my favorites (Raising Arizona)

What RPG books are the Gems of your collection?

Amen! Though if I had to choose... The 3 Little Books in their Box (got awfully lucky on eBay); The Moldvay Basic rules (corrupted my neighborhood "back in the day;" it's probably the most use-worn book I have); 1e PHB (despite the pencilmarks in the margins, still quite crisp); The old WHFRP...

    Monty Python's Top 20 sketches

So what you're saying here is, in fact, that even you, you are afraid, really just don't know?

    Middle Earth - LotR

I'm not sure I'd afford a garden-variety PC the same body of wisdom allotted an (at least in Tolkien's Arda) archangel. Level adjustments notwithstanding, the lore accorded to one of five singular beings doesn't belong anywhere near a 1st level PC.

    Monty Python's Top 20 sketches

My favorite line (not my only one) "No dear, this is the dream. You're still in the cell."

What movies have made you bawl?

I do pride myself on being curmudgeonly, but there is a squishy center in there somewhere. Saving Private Ryan: I've managed very well at resisting Steven Spielberg's attempts over the years to yank at my heartstrings, but I did get teary about midway through the opening scene. What turned on...

    "Classic" Dragon Articles

One of my long-time favorites is "A New Name? It's Elementary!" by Gygax. Gave a pair of tables with which one could generate names (personal, place-related, and the like) composed of Anglo-Saxon root-words (along with rough corresponding meanings). I've used that article for names, idea hooks...

Why, oh why, must history repeat itself?

I hardly think you're being "flame-worthy" here. You're a parent who takes active steps in raising your kids (which, unfortunately, seems to be the exception to the rule in these times). People largely underestimate Voting With One's Wallet.

    Sell me on D&D Miniatures

If I recall correctly, there are 16 packs per case in the Harbinger, Dragoneye, and Archfiends sets. 12 in the Giants of Legend & Aberrations (& upcoming Deathknell) sets. Prices vary..."like my mama told me, you better shop around" Where? Numerous places www.gameoutfitter.com...

Why you shouldn't have a webcam

I'm not sure I understand the "humiliation" theme running through this--to my eyes, the guy looked like he was being knowingly silly. It's not like he stripped to the song or swung an imaginary light-saber or anything.
