I Need some Big-Time help (Issue: Alignment, DM, PCs)

Hmmm... Subotica (in Serbia)? If so, there is likely a shortage of players, as is the case in most smaller cities in Serbia. Before I start speculating, I'd like to know how experienced the DM is and whether this is his regular group or not.

How many Gaming Systems Have You Used in the Past Year?

DMed my own d20 variant for four different groups (three long-term campaigns and two one-off adventures). Played D&D 3.5, nWoD, oWoD, Warhammer 2nd edition, Mutants & Masterminds.

    Do you like Mountain Dew?

Yes. Unfortunately, it's not available in my country, but I buy it every time I go abroad to a country where it's available. Surge was another drink I often drank during my time in the US. Is it still available?

    Your game sucks...

Out of the ~15 friends I game with, only 2 or 3 ever show up on time. I am usually punctual, but since most other people aren't, I stopped caring about it a long time ago. I only game on weekends, usually from 4 pm until 10 pm, so if we start an hour late we still get about 5 hours of gaming...

How much backlash is too much?

    Likewise.

New Legends & Lore: Player vs. Character

Yes, I did. That's why I introduced mechanics that allow such players to occasionally more easily succeed at stuff regardless of how the dice are rolled (e.g. the aforementioned Fate Points), and that's why I give generous in-game bonuses to skill checks when a player comes up with a good...

New Legends & Lore: Player vs. Character

Incidentally, why don't you also remove dice rolls for combat and the "occasional jump or lock pick?" Why do those things require special mechanics, since they can be also role-played or surmised from the character's basic stats?

New Legends & Lore: Player vs. Character

As I said before, I have no problem with that if the style is shared by all the people around the table. OTOH, my personal experience is that no two players are alike and they have widely different preferences, which means that there must be a common denominator to balance the experience...

    Your game sucks...

The only time in my life when I gamed with total strangers was when I ran a series of adventures at the FLGS with the intent of popularizing the hobby. At that time, when I ran into a player whom I found disagreeable for some reason, I asked the store people to tell that particular person that...

New Legends & Lore: Player vs. Character

Anyway, after commenting on others' posts, I guess it would only be fair to write my own preferences in play. I enjoy skill-based systems. My own d20 rendition is entirely skill-based (even for combat). I firmly believe that there should be rules or guidelines for most actions in the game, and...

New Legends & Lore: Player vs. Character

Let me preface this by saying that if ALL of you had fun then by all means, that's your thing, ignore my viewpoint entirely. However, last night, I played in a one-off WoD game in which I also thought that everybody was having fun. Turns out I was wrong, as one of the other players called me...

New Legends & Lore: Player vs. Character

True. However, just ripping the skills out of, say, 3rd edition, would require a massive rebalancing effort because a bunch of classes (bard, ranger, rogue, and monk, for instance) are built around the fact that skills do exist. If you are satisfied with a single reaction roll determining the...

OotS #804 is up! "Where Her Loyalties Lie"

I don't disagree with that. I don't expect every strip to funny, with nothing but one-liners. However, I feel that this strip could have been summed up in two panels.

New Legends & Lore: Player vs. Character

So, the fighter was equally good at talking as the bard? And the cleric was equally good at searching as the rogue? What would have happened if one of the players had really poor communication skills (perhaps due to shyness)? Similarly, what would have happened if one of the players had really...

Tarasque: Have you ever encoutered one?

I had a tarrasque non-combat encounter in my Rebirth campaign. The beast was asleep and the players had to figure out a way to cut one of its internal organs without waking it up (and without the tarrasque's regeneration closing the wound up).

Legends & Lore: The Loyal Opposition

I am very much in favor of this approach (and it's close to what I'm using for my own system), but that's not what Mearls is suggesting.

How often do you include NPCs primarily for roleplaying reasons?

Nope, not Cormyr. Consider this - the sea, a submerged castle with a female ghost NPC, strong druid presence (king seeking counsel from the Grand Druid), a horrible monster that can only be slain with a special sword, firbolgs and verbeeg.
