    Telling a story vs. railroading

maybe its just me, but when our group talks about our next game the GM (sometimes the players) suggest a basic plut. GM: Hey I have an idea for our next game. You know the village your pcs live in during downtime? Well you are comming up the main road, returning from your adventure and you...

Sci-Fi gamers: what's the RPG you use / prefer

Yeah, i have seen that around and it does look interesting. Since it uses BW though I'm not real sure I'm going to pick it up.

Attack of Opportunity -- does it deserve to survive to v.4?

I would be ok if they kept them, but only if the rules made it easier to play without them.

Outside of the WoTC D&D minis...

Magnificent Egos has some really nice mine. Some of the best minis on the market, but they certainly don't have the selcetion Reaper has. and they do have this beast.

    Castle Zagyg by Gary Gygax

This is very true. There are many smaller PDF publishers and a couple primarily print publishers that I'm pretty sure I can do better than. That's not say I'm good enough to write games as a pro, just that there are pro publishers/writers who shouldn't be.

    Castle Zagyg by Gary Gygax

    Castle Zagyg by Gary Gygax

excluding inventing D&D, I would say that this is indeed his Magnum Opus. Though some may like his world building books better.

    Telling a story vs. railroading

part of the problem is there are several different ideas of what railroading is. #1- Some people think that if you have anything written up for the game ahead of time you are railroading. #2-Others think if you have a basic plot in place when the game starts, you are railroading. #3-I have...

Kinkos and the printing and binding of PDFs.

I have never seen a perfect bound book that large, Deathstalkers RPG was in the 500+ range. perfect bound would be very expensive. I personaly have never used prinfu, but I know people who have and I haven't heard any complaints.

Kinkos and the printing and binding of PDFs.

You could also try PrintFu. It would cost about $29.30 (680 pgs) if you did it as one book. I'm not sure, but I think that would be cheaper than Kinkos.

What is a GOOD rules light system?

I vote for Castles & Crusades for that old school feel. However I have been a long time D6 fan, nothing does Sci-Fi as well as d6 (IMO) It can also do any other type of game very well, but it shines in Sci-Fi. The new D6 Powers book rocks to from what I hear.

Is it time to put the "A" back before D&D?

That is my thought. There are already games out there that are like d20 lite for beginers then there is D&D in the middle and then there are games like Spycraft that are more crunchy. No point in WoTC to try it.

    Looking for a setting...

The best western RPG ever IMO. This is still the only RPG I can get my non-gamer brothers to play, they love it.

    "Designer's Notes" to be included...

I like designer notes. In books that I buy it is the first thing I read (it they are included). I like to know why they did what they did. I have also read the designer notes in books @ FLGS and ended up not buying them. Not because the product or notes were bad or anything like that, but...

When the system gets in the way

You know what I think we largely agree. I think our disagreement is more about terminology than actual theory. Also, I don't believe that min-maxing automatically means that the player doesn't role-play their character. It just seems that many min-maxers are so focused on min-maxing and...

When the system gets in the way

Yes, but again this is not Role-Playing. Your stats, feats, and what not will factor into how you decide to RP your character, but this is not role-playing it's chargen.
