    Getting away from miniatures.

Always use minis for PCs, but that can just be to line them up in party order - so there's an excuse to have the characters on show.

Pics of female fighters/knights in realistic armor?

Came across pictures of medieval armour kits last week - had no idea they sometimes had to wear a padded coat, chainmail and hard armour. The heat would be bad in the UK, but must have been unbelievable on a crusade.

    New Clone in Town

Couple of weeks ago I had a nice quiet thread about clone Tainted over in Ads and Promos. (Broadly speaking, a S&W variant with much world-building fluff). Everything then hit a slight delay after breaking more ribs than is healthy. Following the changes here it looks like this is now where to...

I raced a slug to ENW...

It's kind of astonishing here  The forum is . . . fast. This is very unfamiliar territory. Used to be able to go and make a cup of tea - sometimes drink it - before EN appeared.

Do you track the date? The phases of the moon? The weather? Holidays?

Seasons and calendars mean festivals: these guys knew how to put on a festival to suit almost any occasion

Should Insightful players have an advantage?

Looks to be down to whether or not options are explained before a PC is rolled. Few insightful players are going to use Intelligence as a dump stat if they're told it will lead to extra checks and limits - unless they're setting out to play a grunt. In which case they know what they're doing.

    Mongoose's "State of the Mongoose"

This seems pretty much the toughest part of the design, as it's real hard to scale a fantasy RPG up past 20th level. The range of options and major outcomes make it next to impossible to cover everything with rules; while handing more back to the GM means making lots of 'out-of-the-air' calls...

    RPG Conundrums

My only point of potion reference here is when Obelix fell into Getafix's magic potion as a child. So, too much magic potion seems to make you want to eat wild boars

    Lego Heroica - and further?

Maybe a crunch-light version of D&D and a big box of e-Bay Lego, so you can cobble together every monster in the book - at once off cost :)

Crucial clue missed (by a mile and a half) - What will you do?

Good with The Rule of Three. This is sometimes made more obvious and/ or extended by simply making the clues parts of the same item or a basic progression, e.g. a map torn into four pieces or bell, book and candle.

Tainted - The Original Game Served With A Twist Of Evil

Should have been putting this out today, but a quick sprint to the finish line suddenly turned into crawling the last few yards - result of breaking a rack of ribs  Such is life and it'll be along shortly now the bandages are in place :)

My DM just told me he fudges rolls....

meta-fudge is an option, i.e. it's an open roll, but on key rolls players are prompted along the lines of: are there any more factors or circumstances we should take into account here? This lets the players review their options and lets you present useful information again. I.e. a metagame...

In what other games is fudging acceptable?

Parkour and freerunning work along the same lines as RPGs, as there are no definable boundaries/ too many variables for any rule set to cover and the focus is on self-discipline. Football aka soccer is maybe an example of competitive fudging. There's been huge resistance to video replays...

My DM just told me he fudges rolls....

If the GM was using fudged rolls to beat-up on PCs constantly, or fudging so frequently that even dumb play and deliberately taking on impossible opponents doesn't hurt - then I could see the concern. However, until it came-up you seem to have felt that your PC was under threat at times, that...

5th Edition and the Female Demographic

If players want to play and enjoy a fairly crunchy version of D&D, (which like every version has some plus and minus points for each of us), then go them. However, I'm lost with the notion that rules should stick to the letter of the rules law, because it puts DMs in a sticky situation. No DM...

5th Edition and the Female Demographic

Designers for major systems aren't allowed to trust the GM. They are required to prepare the way for add-ons of wonderous bits and bobs, many monsters and the like. If a system and its support makes it too easy to GM no one buys the extra stuff.

5th Edition and the Female Demographic

The afflictions and raving lunatic approaches to flaws don't seem to hook-up to playable actions or outcomes. Resulting in any player rolling a PC covered with boils and under treatment for OCDs is probably going to concentrate more on roleplaying class abilities. Applying actionable effects to...

    Game Well Done

Seen kids play their own age - but haven't come across adults playing 11-year-olds. Very tempted to present players with a reverse Ghost and make them young again after reading that :)

5th Edition and the Female Demographic

Yeah, I'm on very dodgy ground calling on the L&L stats - the independent variable left the room in a huff. Wouldn't put a huge amount of work into a clone if I didn't get to take the engine out of the core game and attempt to replace it with a Spitfire engine :)
