    Transparency in Skill Challenges

One thing I will add here is that remember that just because a Skill Challenge has started does not mean that every Skill Check will have a bearing on it. Some Skill Checks will only an indirect bearing through the granting of bonuses i.e. Secondary Skills. However, some Skill Checks will have...

    Transparency in Skill Challenges

Yeah. I know what you mean. Many official SC are still lacking.

    Transparency in Skill Challenges

I disagree. A well designed Skill Challenge should match the natural course of RP. I think the general approach with a SCs is that it should be used only on those occassions where everyone at the table has a good handle on the problem at hand and how they intend to go about resolving it. There...

How many cycles of 4E core books will you buy?

The decision is not based on number but content. As such, no answer would be of any use.

    Transparency in Skill Challenges

Whilst I agree with the sentiment to an extent, I think one of the strengths of Skill Challenges is to make every roll matter and remove the ability of the GM to influence a result merely through asking for more or less rolls, or changing the intepretation of results. This behaviour is quite...

    SCs: Tailored to the party?

I think you are reading too much into that statement. Its no different from saying that you should tailor a combat to the PCs.

    Transparency in Skill Challenges

I would advocate that except under exceptional circumstances (with a design to match) Skill Challenges shouldn't be fully transparent i.e. all the rules revealed. Though they can work mechanically, they focus players on aligning their PCs trained skills with the lowest DCs and effectively remove...

How many people are buying less books for 4E than previous editions?

Strangely enough, I did not buy many D&D books outside the core except in 1e. However, I am buying most 4e books now. I think the reason in that I am finding that in 4e each new book consistently adds to my game.

    Companion characters as PC

Those people who value simplicity over power. FWIW the power gap isn't that considerable IME, though the reduction in options is.

How Many People Play Table Top RPG?

This was included in the press release about WotC's recent law suits:

    Companion characters as PC

Isn't that the point? FWIW I am having good success with using Companion Characters for PCs in the following situations: 1. Absent players; 2. Players who want reduced options; 3. One shots; and 4. Flashbacks where players play NPCs.

E2: Kingdom of Ghouls & Group Skill Challenges

That is how they work now, or at least how they can work. SKill Challenges have a very flexible design and should vary according to the desired result. FWIW the group skill challenges you mention are appropriate in some challenges, especially to represent the progress of time. It also...

Demon Queens Enclave - Session Reports

I haven't achieved 6 encounters in 3 hours (we use minis and have 5 PCs), but I average 1 encounter every 45 to 50 minutes. This is even the case with complete newbies to the system. You achieve it by acting fast on your turn and knowing what your options are.

    4E: Intro adventure/group suggestion

Yes its in the first 4e one (155?) Another good low level Dungeon adventure is Remains of the Empire for 4th level PCs. I think its in Dungeon 162 or there abouts.

I ran Heathen as my first D&D4e adventure and it was awesome. It is 5th level though.

Orcus of Necromancer Games says "You were right, I was wrong"

I agree that could be the issue. However, I thought that had all been changed in the last GSL iteration.

Orcus of Necromancer Games says "You were right, I was wrong"

Is that the case though? It isn't clear from Orcus' posts. The GSL is out and 3PP are finding that adventures (above all products) are possible and profitable to publish under it. Did Necormancer encounter an issue with the GSL or was it some other reason?
