Demon Queens Enclave - Session Reports

My advice if you are running it as a one off is to build in some personal hooks. Several of the NPCs can be easily replaced. The Mage of Saruun ambassador is a good example where a personal subplot NPC may be suitable.

Demon Queens Enclave - Session Reports

You are limiting yourself and underestimating your players. FWIW one of the nice things about DQE is that the Drow are authentically backstabbing and unreliable, yet the PCs still have to navigate them as there is a greater threat with the rising Exarch of Orcus. Its very much the enemy of my...

Demon Queens Enclave - Session Reports

FWIW I am running Demon Queen's Enclave by PbP here: RPGnet Forums Its been running for about 4 months now, though that would only be a session or 2 in tabletop. The scenario has really held up well IMO. I added a few minor personal ties and hooks for the PCs at the start and it gave the whole...

    Skill Challenge DCs

I don't see why time can't be an issue outside of combat. For example: - The PCs are trapped in a room that's filling with water. - The PCs investigate a plot to assassinate a prince before the assassination takes place. - The PCs try and revive a dying man before he passes into the beyond. -...

    Skill Challenge DCs

I still see this as a flaw in how the Skill Challenge was designed, not the mechanic as a whole. What Skills are appropriate in a given situation is something that must be discovered through narration and experiementation. As such, just relying on the Skills you excel at with properly designed...

What 4E books should I get for a new campaign?

Just to reiterate what is said here - the Core Set 2 + AV1 are the best purchases after the Core Set 1. Shame about DDI.

    4E Class Survivor - Round 3

None. I like them all :) *ducks*

    Skill Challenge DCs

I note that with the standard rules, the avergae result is normally just 1 failure for 4 to 12 success. So, getting no failures happens. This doesn't mean the mechanics don't work as intended. OK this is your first issue. As with play outside of Skill Challenges, if the players are allowed to...

    Skill Challenge DCs

IMO the DCs aren't too low, though they can appear that way. There has been a recent WotC article explaining the math and I think the design is sound It is worth noting that in order to get an even chance of success for the entire challenge, you need individual skill rolls to have the following...

Moving towards no minis in 4e combat

Congratulations for stating the obvious :) If it wasn't clear, I was responding the OPs issue of taking ages to look for correct minis. Searching PDFs of counters is much quicker IME.

Moving towards no minis in 4e combat

I use Fiery Dragon counter PDFs. I simply collate the session's minis (much easier with the searchable names) onto a page, print it on to a label sticker, stick this onto foam board and cut as needed. It helps with storage and speeds up prep time. Plus I can usually get a more accurate counter...

Will 4E Eberron be as bad as FR?

FWIW I am a big fan of FR 4e. It has been a highlight for me of the 4e adventures so far. I wouldn't have touched FR with a barge pole in 3e. Most of the vitriol I have seen against FR4e comes from FR3e fans. From that POV I am expecting the same complaints with Eberron4e from Eberron 3e fans...

Do wizards suck? / multiple attacks

No it isn't. A Wizard doing higher damage is neither more "simulationist" or "narrativist" or less "gamist" than the 4e approach. It is merely a mechanical consequence of the rules as written. 4e takes a different approach than previous editions and your expectations conflicting with it...

    Multiclassing and Expanded Spellbook

Honestly, he should suck it up. This is a case of wanting to have your cake and eat it too. The player will still get considerably benefit from Expanded Spell Book feat (as it will likely apply to 2 or 3 levels of Wizard Spells even with the multiclass).

    Multiclassing and Expanded Spellbook

That's true, though Wizards do get 2 Utilities as well. So the same issue applies.

    Magic Item Wish List????

Its just extra communication from the players to the DM. Feel free to ignore it but more information passed the better. FWIW I have been using Wishlists since AD&D1e and it works great and overtime is much fairer on PCs than random distribution.

50% chance for everythin. Where does it says so?

The baseline of 50% (or actually 55%) became a dominant factor in D&D3e. At 1st level, with equal bonuses, you generally need to get a 10 or greater on a d20 to succeed at an attack. However, this baseline is easily stretched with specific examples, especially as you increase in levels...

    Skill Chellenges - unfun?

No offence intended, but I don't understand how people find skill challenges as a lot of work. Mechanically they are very simple (choose complexity, level, success and failure). The difficulty is really in presentation which requires only a little more forethought than a pre-D&D4e skill...

What do you think the new setting will be, from Ampersand?

My guess is Dark Sun. With PHB3 introducing Psionics, I think WotC will want to stretch its 4e legs with the 3rd setting.
