D&D 5E (2024) Multi-Cantrip Build: 3 / round with BS Extra Attack, EK War Magic and Haste? (5 with Action Surge?)

OMFG… I just came across Illusionist’s Bracers from the 2014 Ravnica book 😱 So… add one more cantrip to the total, since the Bonus Action wasn’t used yet. And while we’re at it, if you can get an Opportunity Attack with the War Caster feat, then that’s yet another cantrip. The tally so far...

    D&D 5E (2024) The Buff Chamber

For a bit of comedy, you could make the shadowy medium door materialize on the floor under your feet, and make it connect to the ceiling of your demi-plane. So you'd fall into your batcave, say your secret glyphword in midair, bounce on a trampoline you'd have conveniently left on the ground...

    D&D 5E (2024) The Buff Chamber

Oh wow that is perfect. I had a hunch some planar shenanigans were the key to the setup puzzle, but Plane Shift wasn't it, and I missed Demiplane.

    D&D 5E (2024) The Buff Chamber

Using Glyph of Warding, you can essentially get a location-specific contingency-style trigger for when another spell will take effect. There are many differences between GoW and Contingency: Location: It is location-specific because the glyph gets canceled if it is moved more than 10 ft from...

    D&D 5E (2024) The Problem with Treantmonk's Hunter's Mark

Not only that, you can make it a 3rd level (or whatever) spell directly. This way it not only avoids the Paladin subclass spell list, but also prohibits taking it with Fey Touched.

D&D General WotC Continues D&D's Advance To Digital First Brand

I want to throw another angle into this drama-infused thread. I feel like WotC so far have demonstrated that they’re not that good at software… am I alone in this impression? Maybe acquiring D&DB is the inflection point and everything will be hunky dory, but personally, I have doubts. That is...

Isn’t that Meta in a nutshell? And crack dealing in general? Basically every industry that calls their customers "users" 🤣

D&D General Why is the multi-classing spell slot math so weird?

Right... I'm amazed at how often 5e wording is unclear... I think I've said this before, but back in the days of the 2e and 3.5e, we could resolve any rules lawyering dispute by simply reading the books more attentively. Now, we can't get anywhere without a Sage Advice ruling, which seems so...

D&D General Why is the multi-classing spell slot math so weird?

I thought the RAW were to divide by 3, add the fractions, and then round down. If that’s true, then an AT5/EK5 would get a CL of 3, not 2. If we divide, then round down, then add up, it yields a CL of 2 (as you said). Which is it (by RAW)?

D&D General Why is the multi-classing spell slot math so weird?

Yeah, both editions had various mechanics for scaling effects: 3.5e: Caster level (which were mostly equal to the class level the spell belonged to, barring minor exceptions like magic items that gave +1 CL or similar). Attack bonus, based on the BAB you’d get from various classes (they didn’t...

D&D General Why is the multi-classing spell slot math so weird?

Yeah. Moreover, another difference was that upcasting barely existed in 3.5e. There were "heightened spells" which was effectively a form of upcasting, but only had fairly fringe implications, like bypassing spell level-based protections. In 5e, upcasting is a much more important gameplay...

D&D General Why is the multi-classing spell slot math so weird?

Yes, I agree in principle… that could be an elegant way of "smoothing out" the spell slot progression for these "fractional levels" inbetween the integral numbers. Though that kind of solution could be trickier to implement in the higher levels, where the air gets rarefied and instead of getting...

D&D General Why is the multi-classing spell slot math so weird?

These are interesting thoughts... I do agree that Magic Initiate goes a long way. It's a pretty powerful feat. And especially with some spells being augmentable, such as Cure Wounds, it can go a long way if you have slots from another class. And on top of it, it allows you to get those MI...

D&D General Why is the multi-classing spell slot math so weird?

IIUC, by the RAW, all classes round up while pure, but the EK and AT transition to rounding down when multi-classing.

D&D General Why is the multi-classing spell slot math so weird?

I may be missing something but I don’t understand what you mean here… At Wizard7/EK3, the effective caster level would be 8th, which would provide an extra 4th level spell slot compared to the previous level. That scenario seems fine to me?

D&D General Why is the multi-classing spell slot math so weird?

Consider Alice, a character who is an Eldritch Knight 7. They get 4 level 1 slots, and 2 level 2 slots. If that character then becomes a Wizard 1, the multi-classing rules say that their slots are now determined by their full Wizard level + a third of their EK level (rounded down). 1 + 7/3...

D&D General The "Ease of Long Rests" as a metric for describing campaigns / DM styles?

As I like to say… D&D is a different game with each DM. So I’ve played a few different kinds of D&Ds given that I’ve played with various DMs, including myself. This is totally anecdotal, so take it with a grain of salt, but I’ve played at a bunch of tables, including some that had (out-game)...

    D&D 5E (2024) Unconfirmed Dark Sun Book

Bingo! It should be rated PG-13 (or 18 or whatever age the members of the Donner party had I guess :ROFLMAO: ...) and not dilute it. For what it's worth, I think there could be many very interesting campaign settings with mature themes. For example, historically inspired settings. Playing the...

    D&D 5E (2024) Editable 5.2.1 SRD

Hi @ScavieFae, This is pretty cool! I assume you do know of the other already-existing websites that make the SRD browsable, right? For example: http://dnd2024.wikidot.com/ might be the most complete (including splatbooks). Dungeons & Dragons 5e » Dungeons & Dragons - D&D 5e seems not as...
