i disagree that multiverses are a flawed concept but i do acknowledge that not every setting needs to be part of one.

a whim is just a spontaneous desire in the moment, an emotional urge isn't all that different, just because these urges weren't planned doesn't means they can't then go about acting upon and following those desires intelligently or with caution.

i like the bulk of your post but i'd disagree on this one point, being lawful/chaotic doesn't make those of that alignment feel good as such, more that those people value the principles of it and think the methods of those alignments are the most effective way of getting things accomplished.
