Renegade Announces It Will Publish Exodus Roleplaying Game in 2026

Yes, and in the future, they WILL BE published by Renegade. I am missing what might be difficult here.

    Let's Talk About Metacurrency

What are "action points" in this regard, that aren't metacurrency?

    Let's Talk About Metacurrency

Up thread I added: So there are different ypes. And, of course, folks have different definitions. But broadly "metacurrency" refers to a resource that the PLAYER has access to, with which they can impact the game outside of their characters' direct actions. This can be like Inspiration from...

    Let's Talk About Metacurrency

You don't have to convince me. I already said I like metacurrency.

    Let's Talk About Metacurrency

I mean, you don't HAVE to take the bitter with the sweet when you have metacurrency.

    Let's Talk About Metacurrency

Yeah, I like the idea of spending metacurrency to add complications, for sure. But sometimes you also just really want to deliver the smack down and the dice aren't cooperating...

    Let's Talk About Metacurrency

There is an interesting question: what if metacurrency can only be refreshed or gained by actions by the characters in the fiction? is it still metacurrency? (Yes, this is leading us toward that worst of all discussions: Are Force Points Meta Currency?")

    Let's Talk About Metacurrency

I think it qualifies as meta if you use, say, an encounter calculator to make an appropriate encounter for the adventure, as opposed to only ever designing something with the fiction in mind. Does that make your XP budget a metacurrency?

    Let's Talk About Metacurrency

I do find it interesting that some folks do not want an intrusion into the fiction by an outside, or meta, force -- EXCEPT the GM. The GM role is entirely meta. The GM does not exist in the fiction, and has full control over the fiction. So everything the GM does is meta. Yet there is a...

    Let's Talk About Metacurrency

I do think it is probably worth differentiating some of the broad categories of metacurrency: currency that lets the player alter the outcome of rolls or at least their probable outcomes; currency that gives players some sort of authorial control (like cart full of straw); currency used to power...

When you build strawmen, do you prefer plastic or paper straws?

    Wolfenstein TTRPG Coming From Modiphius

If I were to design a Conan inspired RPG, one fore mechanic I would build in is having early failures build a pool or other "stat" to succeed later. Liek many, many heroes, Conan often ends up getting kicked around early in a story only to be able to succeed against apparently impossible odds in...

    Let's Talk About Metacurrency

I do think that spending after the roll is better than spending before (with the assumed potential outcome of failure). I like when metacurrency is used to bend fat. it does not have to be perfect and always result in success, but (IMO) it should be MOST LIKELY to result in success after the fact.

    Let's Talk About Metacurrency

One of the reasons I like GM facing metacurrencies is because it helps alleviate the question of whether the GM was acting fairly. Don't get me wrong: everyone at the table is tere to have a good time, and I don't think we should forgive bad GMs for abusing their fiat power in trad games. But, I...

    Let's Talk About "Intended Playstyle"

Out of curiosity, what is the playstyle you prefer and are there opinionated games that are in the same broad category as your preferences?

    Let's Talk About Metacurrency

[This is another htread in my ongoing exploration of foundational TTRPG elements to consider for Bucket: The RPG, my personal RPG design to check off a Bucket List item. The intent is not to talk about my game design, though, but to explore the subject -- in this case metacurrency -- in a way...

    Let's Talk About "Intended Playstyle"

Interesting. I think a Seraph is significantly more specific than a Paladin and harder to reskin as some setting specific holy warrior type. note that none of this is really a criticism of DH. I am just arguing against the idea it is more generic than D&D.

    Let's Talk About "Intended Playstyle"

I am not sure I agree about Daggerheart. The system pretty tightly maintains the intended playstyle, and the specifics of the classes and domains make it harder to rebrand than it should be.

    D&D 3.x I miss 3.5 edition

Every once in a while, I consider trying to run 3.5 again because there is a lot about it I like. Then I see a post by this and I remember that it was players that ruined 3.5.
