Pathfinder 1E "Old School" Rules for Pathfinder

    Here are some ideas based on Reynard's guidelines: Slowed Advancement Chart Level 1: 0 XP Level 2: 2,000 XP Level 3: 5,000 XP Level 4: 10,000 XP Level 5: 20,000 XP Level 6: 37,500 XP Level 7: 75,000 XP Level 8: 150,000 XP Level 9: 250,000 XP Level 10+: +250,000 XP/level Give XP for...

    What is an elegant system?

I think that Savage Worlds is an elegant system. The rules are not complicated but allow for all sorts of character/campaign options. It has a solid foundation, a not-too-complicated combat/task resolution system, and is easy to tweak.

Which D&D edition do you *really* prefer?

I love 2nd edition for Planescape and its historic campaign setting books. Mechanically I like stripped down 3rd edition best: Castles & Crusades and or my C&C houserules. So far I'm REALLY digging what I see in 5th edition... but it's too soon to tell what it'll look like when complete.

So the playtest is out: What do you think? The EN World poll!

So far I'm neutral... tending towards positive. I'm strongly against the rest/natural healing mechanic but, other than that, think the rules are fairly decent.

If WotC deliver on all their promises...

I hope that you're right. I'm burnt out on 3rd and 4th edition and want D&D to move in a new direction (while, somehow, looking and feeling like D&D).

If WotC deliver on all their promises...

I just wish they'd move away from the reliance on skills. Let character background/theme and ability scores (and the ingenuity of the player) guide "skill" use. The article on the rogue talks about them as being the master of skills... which really points to 5th edition working like 3rd and...

    Rogue Design goals . L&L May 7th

This bit really rubs me the wrong way: The same king tricked into an alliance by a rogue is much harder to sway. A simple spell is not enough to counter the web of lies, half-truths, and fears that a cunning rogue might use to manipulate a way into the royal treasury. ANY character should be...

    D&D 3.5 Reprints in September?

    Sounds cheesy to me... ;)

Most spells available at first level?

I'd say a minor boon/bane would fill in for the 1st level wish slot. Spells like bless or bane would work for a very-slightly altered reality.

    D&D 5E (2014) Levels and Spell Levels - what's your preference for 5E?

Assuming characters advance from levels 1-20 and spells have 10 levels (let's say 1-10 rather than 0-9), how about the following? Characters can memorize and cast spells with a level equal to their class level/2 (rounded normally). Levels 1-2: 1st level spells Levels 3-4: 1st & 2nd level...

The One Hour Game, continued (BD&D as a baseline)

I'd prefer Moldvay Basic with the following tacked on: 1] AD&D multiclassing 2] Limited feats for non-casters (weapon finesse, specialization, two-weapon fighting, etc) 3] Ascending AC, max HP at 1st level, & 3 save types from 3.X (but with REF based on the better of INT/DEX, FORT based on the...

    Looking for new RPG

My group has just moved away from D&D and have settled on Savage Worlds as our go-to game. We've only played a few times but, so far, it has gone really smoothly. Combats are fast and fun... and potentially lethal. Character creation is fairly flexible and doesn't take long at all. We've used...

What would you like to see happen with FR?

I'd like the Realms to be stripped back and rebuilt from Ed Greenwood's notes... which will be published this fall. It would be a total reboot; which is probably what it needs at this point.

    D&D 5E (2014) Levels and Spell Levels - what's your preference for 5E?

Instead of having 0-9th level spells, I'd like to see them span from 1st-10th level. This would mean that 1st and 2nd level casters would only get what were 0-level spells in 3rd edition, while what were 9th level spells (but would now be 10th level) wouldn't be available until 19th level...

    House Fairies!

I used a few fairies/sidhe in Pendragon... along with a giant or two.

    Myth & Magic rpg

I'll definitely be picking this up. I loved 2nd edition, warts and all, and want to see what tweaks you've made to improve upon it.

    Consume, Engage, Cherish

For me the core books should be easy to digest, yet be visually appealing enough to draw in players. That's why I think it's a combination of Consume & Cherish. Later sourcebooks, particularly campaign settings and guides to the planes/organizations/gods, should handle the Engage element.

The First Five Books (after core)

1] A starter adventure that includes dungeon, wilderness, nautical and urban components. It should offer DM advice for running adventures in such areas and for expanding upon the adventure to build a sandbox campaign. 2] Greyhawk Campaign Setting boxed set, complete with a huge map that draws...

    Level Titles

Keep 'em as an optional component... for nostalgia's sake and for poops & giggles. They are easily ignored but can add a little flavor to your game.
