D&D General My Problem(s) With Halflings, and How To Create Engaging/Interesting Fantasy Races

To riff off my earlier suggestion about horses, rather than horses getting larger maybe it was humans that got smaller to be better able to ride the small horses? Humans evolving to be smaller has happened in the real world with Homo Floresiensis.

D&D General My Problem(s) With Halflings, and How To Create Engaging/Interesting Fantasy Races

Something I suggested in another thread was that in campaigns set in far antiquity halflings might be masters of the plains and cavalry as horses were too small for other races to ride, being limited to chariots. Maybe in your world horses never got larger and halflings still fill that niche?

D&D 5E (2014) Arkadia vs Theros: Sell me on or off

I suppose it's a bit of an 'uncanny valley' effect.

D&D 5E (2014) Arkadia vs Theros: Sell me on or off

I have Theros and as a classicist it just rubs me the wrong way. If you want a milieu based on mythical Greece then I urge you to find a copy of Hero Games Mythic Greece and adapt it for 5E.

Is this at all like The Folly from the Rivers of London series?

D&D 5E (2014) Here it is! Version 5 of my hombrewed Warlord class!

Yes, that feels good. That you can't use it yourself is actually a net positive: you can use it from safety. Sneak Attack with a melee weapon requires getting up and personal. In general, I like your ideas; I just think that they need a little toning down. If you were to base everything off...

Only one of your attacks. And you get them before the BM. And you can spam them ad nausea. And you can use them in conjunction with BI and Increase Damage.

D&D 5E (2014) Here it is! Version 5 of my hombrewed Warlord class!

I think you should simplify Battlefield Insight - just have everyone start at 1d6 with a maximum number of dice equal to your Proficiency Bonus or levels in the class, whichever is lower. You can increase the die size at later levels, e.g 1d8 at 5th level. Improve Damage needs a bigger cost than...

D&D General IMO, Alignment should be "Fill in the blank"

If alignment isn't useful to you or relevant to your game, just toss it. Like they did in Xoth.

D&D 5E (2014) Dnd World Demographics Excel Tool - Rarity of Classes and Spells

I remember a story in which stevedores had been replaced with undead and were causing trouble for the militia. The owners of the harbour were making money hand over fist - no wages to pay - until the necromancer controlling the undead revealed his other plans...

D&D 5E (2014) Do you think we'll see revised core books in 2024? (And why I think we will)

I really hope they reverse this. Rather, they should expand the use of the short rest by giving long-rest classes improved ability recovery on a short rest and diminished recovery on a long rest. For example see this.

D&D 5E (2014) Dnd World Demographics Excel Tool - Rarity of Classes and Spells

Is one in a million (roughly) really so many? Remember that some of those will be liches and demiliches. Remember that many will be too far away, tied up in some potentate's court, exploring other planes, or otherwise inaccessible. Roman-era Britain had a population of about 3.5 million: are 3-4...

D&D 5E (2014) Dnd World Demographics Excel Tool - Rarity of Classes and Spells

Upthread a Roman legion was mentioned. For me, the skirmishers would be levels 1-2, the legionaries level 2-3, centurions level 4-6, and the senior centurions levels 6-8. There would, of course, be the odd exception.

D&D 5E (2014) Hypothetical Revised PHB: What Subclasses Makes the Cut?

For the fighter, ditch the Eldritch Knight. You can already do it in three ways: by being a fighter and taking the Magical Adept and Ritual Caster feats or by being a wizard and taking the various Armour Proficiency feats or by multiclassing.

D&D 5E (2014) Guild Artisans are boring. Be an independent winemaker instead.

Historically, guilds were very localised. For example the Worshipful Companies of the City of London, the Incorporated Trades of Aberdeen, and the Schuola of Venice. They had widespread contacts, of course, and a Fishmonger from London could expect hospitality from the Schuola di Pescatori in...
