AI/LLMs AI art bans are going to ruin small 3rd party creators

I’m not asking about IP rights.

Which doesn’t answer the question. Every public domain image had some creator.

AI/LLMs AI art bans are going to ruin small 3rd party creators

Legally they have rights. But that’s not the same as saying they were the creator of the derivative. That’s the AI is a tool camp. If AI is a tool like a word processor then the person using it is the creator, the artist, etc. or at least I don’t see a logical way around that. I’m not really...

AI/LLMs AI art bans are going to ruin small 3rd party creators

Glad we can agree there. Well that’s not been the primary debate I’ve been involved in for this thread. But I’m also not convinced the arguments about major negative impacts from the technology are fundamentally any different than those against any other form of automation. Potentially more...

Agreed, well mostly. I don’t know for sure that I’d credit the creator of the original work as the creator of the derivative, even though there is clearly influence there. But I’m open to either interpretation. What about the programmers and engineers that created the LLM and algorithm it uses...

Is "finding the right players" a solvable problem, or just luck?

Okay, but I don’t think most people are deceiving themselves about whether they find their group to be good enough for them.

Is "finding the right players" a solvable problem, or just luck?

Sure, I don’t disagree with that distinction, but I specifically said ‘good enough group’. In both of those cases the group was ‘good enough’ for that person regardless of whether it was a really good group or just deciding it is good enough.

Kind of the same thing I thought?

Is "finding the right players" a solvable problem, or just luck?

There’s a process that will work eventually given a large enough player pool and enough time, but achieving it quickly is mostly just luck. Most people just luck into a good enough group.

Fundamental question here. Who did create that novel? Unless AI is sentient, with intention and will then surely the creation must ultimately be attributable to a person or at least multiple people? That sounds very similar to letting the AI know what you want and developing the necessary...

Presumably at the very least you are functioning as director and final editor of that endeavor.

Sounds reasonable enough. I agree here but ai images arent just the ai pulling out an existing image from a repository of already existing images. This seems to be the fundamental difference in positions. AI’s do create new images even though they require a bunch of existing images to train...

One can still acknowledge negative social and environmental impacts while still concluding that in at least some contexts the output is ultimately art.

D&D 5E (2024) The Most Meta Party to Make the DM Cry?

I guess it depends on the level range. Ain't no party of level 1 and 2 bards going to tank anything but a wet noodle.

Right. I never was creative in the artistic sense when following the lego blueprints, though i may have been creative in my use of techniques to enable myself to more quickly follow those blueprints. I was very artistically creative when freestyling and making something lego from scratch...

I plan on melee range. The next guy is new to our group so no telling.

D&D 5E (2024) The Most Meta Party to Make the DM Cry?

so our party has updated. We have a monk possibly mc to monk/cleric later, wild magic sorcerer, great old one warlock, my sea Druid and 1 unknown.

D&D 5E (2024) The Most Meta Party to Make the DM Cry?

I think I’ve got my level 1 Sea Druid ironed out. I’m picturing roleplaying him as more of a Viking Seer that’s very blunt and direct. Orc - for the darkvision and bonus action dash (darkvision is big in this campaign). Also fits thematically with the larger body. Sage background for magic...
