An Open Letter to the "OSR Blogosphere"

I find that OSR-bloggers aren't the only ones guilty in being self-important, obnoxious loathers of all those who dare to play OD&D or AD&D in an "impure" manner. Over at another forum, one dedicated to AD&D or OD&D, you dare not ask about houseruling those games or face repeated snarky replies...

How many levels does D&D need?

I have no clue how many levels D&D "needs" because different editions and different players have different needs and wants in order to make D&D work for them. I just had a thought though. D&D with 10 levels might work really well. Spell levels would correspond with character level (no 0-level...

    % of in-character, out-of-character and out-of-game talk

I'd go with Cadfan's estimate for my game too... which is unfortunate.

What are you playing that is NOT D&D?

Up until recently I was running a Pendragon game, and playing in a Star Wars d20 and Deadlands (classic) game. Now I'm playing Call of Cthulhu along with 2 D&D games on Saturdays.

Pathfinder 1E What project would you like Paizo to tacke next for Pathfinder?

Sorry I didn't reply sooner... I don't hang out on these boards all that much (I usually pop in for a quick check on the latest threads and skedaddle). I do think that Pathfinder needlessly pumped up all of the classes and races, often in ways that I didn't agree with, but still think Paizo did...

Pathfinder 1E What project would you like Paizo to tacke next for Pathfinder?

I'd vote for none of the above. What I'd like to see, however, is a Pathfinder Basic game. That would be a stripped-down d20 game with an old-school basic D&D feel to it. No feats, no skill points, no pumped-up 3.X classes and/or races.

    Favourite Fantasy Settings

Greyhawk (classic Pre-Wars stuff). It's open-ended enough to allow for heavy DM imput but has enough flavor to help inspire a DM.

[FG&G] For Gold & Glory: 2nd Edition Fantasy Role-Playing Game

Will you be adding the half-orc back as a player race? I know it wasn't in the 2nd edition PHB but was included in later supplements (Skills & Powers and The Complete Book of Humanoids). The same goes for the Monk and Assassin classes (they were added in The Scarlet Brotherhood book). Since...

Help! I need a rules-lite super hero RPG

I'd go with Blood of Heroes. It has crappy production values (the art is atrocious) but is based on the awesome DC Heroes RPG... my favorite supers game. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DC_Heroes

[Castles and Crusades] Save or Die Madness

A quick fix is to use a 15/10 split in place of the 18/12 split. That improves the chance of success by 15% for non-prime saves and 10% for prime saves. Also, depending on their level, characters should have a ring of protection (I have them give a save bonus) of +1 through +5 value to help...

    Goodman Games solicits input

+1 I bought and like Trailblazer (it's a great resource to drawn ideas from in order to fix 3.5), but I'm looking for something a little more radical/self-contained (but less radical than Microlite d20). The challenge is to keep what worked well in 3.5 and strip out the bits that bog down the...

    Goodman Games solicits input

A d20-based, rules light, DCC RPG could be great. As someone who isn't a fan of Pathfinder or 4th edition, I'd love to see a streamlined, "fixed" version of D&D 3.X that keeps the unified mechanics but ditches a lot of the stuff that grinds high-level play down to a halt and makes high level...

How would you like a "Gamers Seeking Gamers" system to work?

A game finder that is based off of ZIP code would be ideal... especially if you can search for a RPG by ZIP code.

A vision of a D&D retro-clone with new school elements

Castles & Crusades is great... particularly if you'd enjoy a fast and loose d20 D&D variant that encourages (almost begs for) tweaking.

    Rebuild 1E...

Here goes: 1] Use simpler progressions for stat bonuses (as in Basic D&D or d20) 2] Remove level limits for demihumans and lighten class restrictions 3] Tweak classes to bring them more in-line with one another and remove ability score requirements 4] Use unified mechanic for attack roll...

Was AD&D1 designed for game balance?

I think EGG set out with balance in mind but went off of the rails with Unearthed Arcana.

    Anyone play Fantasy Craft?

Thanks guys... FC is looking better and better. I'd NEVER run 3rd edition again (too much prep-work involves number-crunching rather than creative processes) but was disappointed with both 4th edition and Pathfinder. This sounds like it'll do nicely.
