Which are the major RPG rule systems?

I would say that the major systems today are: d20 Storyteller Palladium GURPS HERO BRP Unisystem Tri-Stat All those are still selling good (including BRP, which is the engine behind Call of Cthulhu), and were applied to several different settings. The Minor League would include: Silhouette...

Wizards Fall Releases (Races of the Wild, others)

Good idea, and it is coming out in October, just in time to my birthday. :]

    Special Edition PHB?

So it is 320 pages as the normal edition. Unless they are actually insering notes in the sides, it seems that this will really be the old PHB in a fancy paper.

    Special Edition PHB?

I would buy such book, but I have little hope that WotC will ever release it. I guess that the upcomming edition will be the same old PHB with a brand new cover. I don't like the current cover, but I see little reason to expend extra cash in a special edition. As someone else already pointed...

    My beefs with D20

No game will ever please everyone. Sometimes it's necessary to make compromisses, both the designer and the individual players, like ourself. I will not comment yours C2-3 rants, as I agree with you. Unfortunely, the designers had different opinions. Concerning C1, I think you're right. The...

    Underdark Ecology

A few suggestions: 1) Include some sort of energy source. Geothermic will do it. As many have pointed before, there is no way you can have an ecosystem without an energy source. Then you can create some fantastic lifeforms that can use this energy and be the base of the food web. Additionally...

If D&D spell lists were reduced to 10/level...

I have considered to run a game using a limited spell list. Basically, I would copy the list found in the old D&D Rules Cyclopedia, perhaps with some editing. It is a pretty good list, covering nearly all that is necessary to a full campaign.

What day(s) of the week do you game?

Wednesday's night, from 20:00 to 24:00, every two weeks (although we are playing every week now, it is not the norm). I really hate to play at night, but we all work and some of us have children and, therefore, are not willing to play at weekend afternoons, when they usually spend time with...

    Playing a mute character

The very first time I've played GURPS I runned a Wersten game. One of the players, excited with the number of options availabe, created a mute gunfighter. From the moment we started the game to the very end of the session, he didn't pronounced a single word. Even so, I could easily understand...

    Racial variety

But then, most Greyhawkian major human races are not white. The sole exception are the Suel, which are usually portraited as racial supremacist villains. The Blakunish are arabic, the Flan are a mix of amerindians with celts and the Oeridians, which conquered most of the continent while mixing...

What campaign setting do you use?

I usually homebrew, in which I change races and classes available and tweak the rules a little bit, but, from time to time, I like to play by the rules, and to me, D&D is Greyhawk. I am planning to run my first 3.5 campaign in a few weeks and it should be in Greyhawk once again.

[Green Ronin] Looking Ahead at 2004

] There is one novel, called Magician, which is current being published in two volumes (Apprentice and Master). As far as I know, Feist have not revised the text for the new edition. As a matter of fact, for those who haven't read it yet, I do recomend to read Magician and stop. The story...

WoR - Races - Evolution vs. Deity Created

Not only Umbran is right but also, going back to your example, it doesn't sounds credible to have an avian like species with the burden of bringing their juveniles while flying. I wouldn't buy it as a Sci-Fi scenario, but I have no problem with it being fantasy. My advise is to don't worry much...

Eberron is bringing me back to D&D

I also agree with Black Moria. I hardly have any time left to cope with all possible variations available to D&D. The three core books are actually all you need to play. Although, I wish I could control my consumist urge as well as I am doing today.

WoR - Races - Evolution vs. Deity Created

I have a biology degree and I see no point of trying to integrate evolution theory with high fantasy.

What SF RPGs do you play?

Star Frontiers was my first exposure to a Sci-Fi roleplaying game. It is a quite good game, although the setting could be improved with more development. However, Traveller is the Sci-Fi game I've played most. It is still a great game in any edition (Classic, Mega,or T4 -- the last one bugged...

What realistic RPGs do you enjoy?

If you mean not magical modern days for realistic, then James Bond is one of the best games available. In fact, it is one of the best RPGs of all time, much ahead of its time. I usually understand as realistic, games that portrait characters within the human limits, somewhat biased to the...

    Best City books?

Very curious opinion. Although I agree with your opinion about Lankhmar, I found the original Waterdeep the worst city supplement I ever read. Not only, it is inconsistent, as it was based in rather ridiculous assumptions to justify the maintainance of the city, but also uninspiring and poorly...

    Best City books?

Chaosium's Lovecraft Country series, detailing several cities such as Arkham, Innsmouth for Call of Cthulhu is probably the best effort as long as cities go in rpgs. Regarding fantasy, TSR done two very good supplements, Lankhmar for AD&D 1st edition, and Greyhawk for AD&D 2nd edition. I haven't...

Upcoming products - which will you be getting?

I am not much in hype anymore. This year Wizards manage to sell me only the gift set. I was really anxious to get the Draconomicon, but it turned out to be a disapointment when I finally got a chance to see it. As such, I will wait to see the upcoming products before planning to purchase them...
