I am curious what archetypes you were thinking of outside of modern TTRPGs and video games for the Druid. I can't think of a single current view of the druid in any gaming space that hasn't fully embraced the shapeshifter combat role -- not since the late 90s anyway. And just to be clear...

I feel like you are misunderstanding the thesis. I did not say that only play matters. I said that the work done should be oriented toward play. In sport, practicing skills that make you better in a game is the very definition of making play paramount.

I do think that there is a category difference -- not between the forms, but between folks preferences. i know movie nerds who would NEVER be happy with straming services. Same with music nerds etc. Some RPG nerds feel the same way*. *It'sa me! I'm "some RPG nerds"!

They aren't for everyone. I tend to really enjoy Critical Role as an adjunct to the Vox Machina cartoon -- I will go back and watch table moments of big events in the cartoon. I also enjoy clip shows. But our individual preferences do not define the medium, and we should not look askance at...

Oh, I did not think of the idea that it wasn't live. I thought most streams were live. (I don't watch any of them live, and usually only indulge clip shows and specific moments.)

Someone upthread posted the description and it sounds like a single encounter type situation. I am curious whether that encounter is guaranteed to be in the stream that "advertises" it. Not that it is a big deal -- streaming games aren't like "real" games in certain regards. I am just wondering.

I am curious if the little scenarios they will be selling will specifically be events that happen in game on the stream.

Well, you see, that information is in the DMG -- which no one reads, because they already know how to DM.

Because WotC will not, for unfathomable reasons, produce new products on PDF -- even though they have old products on PDF, they have a whole-ass D&D PDF platform, and every other publisher in the industry does.

You are focusing on the wrong aspect. No one cares where you have to buy it from if you own the thing after purchase. The problem with Beyond is that you DO NOT own it.

If anything, we should think about they way they are used in movies and video games. D&D is very idisyncratic with regards to "small unit tactics" and almost nothing from the real world translates over. Cover Fire does not really work without a sizable squad of folks lighting up the area, nor...
