Alternative Wizard based on the Bard

Sorry if it was confusing - just off the top of my head thought swhile at work :D As for the changes suggested for the Bard class - I guess I just didn't want to stray too far from the Wizard class - just reduce the hugely powerful spells at the top end of the spell list.

Alternative Wizard based on the Bard

Has anyone produced a version of the Wizard class using the Bard as its basis? I'm considering doing this for a low-magic campaign which wouldn't have the current arcane classes. There are a lot attractions, particularly as the campaign will have a more martial flavour than a standard...

Balancing act - giving rogues d8 hit die

It is beginning to sound compelling . . .

Balancing act - giving rogues d8 hit die

Nifft - I really like your idea but like SylverFlame feel it might be a little excessive. The whole reason for this is that I've been searching for a "Swashbuckler" core class and all of the versions published so far do not hit the mark. It then dawned on me that the rogue was almost a perfect...

Balancing act - giving rogues d8 hit die

The title pretty much says it all. So what would be so unbalancing about giving the rogue class a d8 hit die? If it is unbalancing how would you suggest it could be balanced? What would the rogue have to give up?

    Feat template for new players

3.0/3.5 D&D offers players a lot of variety for their characters. Customising the core classes as they choose with the appropriate skills and feats. However, this array of choices is a bit mind boggling for new players. What I'm proposing is not that difficult (and doesn't need pointing out...

New Core Class - Spirit Warrior

Thanks again, Knight-of-Roses. The only problem with that is that, overall, the Spirit Warrior ends up as the Druid but without spells - albeit with more of a choice in weapons. I'm tempted to make them HD 10, one good save (Fort), like the fighter. How unbalanced would that be?

An idea for a broken Fighter class

I'm very tempted to give fighters Armour Specialisation, at 12 level, in place of the current bonus feat (Armour Specialisation is from the Warmain class from Arcana Unearthed ).

New Core Class - Spirit Warrior

Thanks for the comments Knight - I was beginning to think I'd get no replies. What about Hp, BAB and saving throw progression?

    toughness change

My only problem with replacing Toughness with Sturdy is that I always felt Toughness was a feat aimed at low HD classes. To give them a bump start in Hps at early levels. A feat like Sturdy, magnifies the differences (in that characters in the more martial classes are the ones likely to have...

New Core Class - Spirit Warrior

In our Campaign the Druid is based on a version of the one which appears in the Slaine RPG. As this Druid has no Wild Shape ability I'm trying to create an alternative class called the Spirit Warrior to fill this niche. The abilities of the class are as follows: 1 - Animal empathy, shape...

Using classes from Arcana Unearthed in a standard D&D game

Thanks for the replies. Darklone, I wasn't planning to bring in feats (although this may be done on a case by case basis, e.g. replacing Toughness with Sturdy) just the non-spellcasting classes.

Using classes from Arcana Unearthed in a standard D&D game

Appologies if this topic has been covered already - I've been away from the boards for a while! I was reading Arcana Unearthed and it struck me how the non-spell casting classes could be imported to standard D&D. The Warmain is the epitome of the "Tank" fighter. Or the Knight archetype (in the...

    New Baby!

Thanks guys! Wife and baby are now asleep - a moment of calm between the storms! Frostmarrow and Kengar, I hope your labour is just a complication-free as ours was. Other than that all I can say is that having a baby is just the best thing in the world! :D

    New Baby!

Well, I just thought I'd share the news that on Wednesday morning (UK time) my daughter, Beth, was born. Baby and mother are both doing wonderfully well. It's our first baby and my wife and I are both a bit bedazzled by the whole thing. In a word it has been "fantastic"!
