Finding out what gamers are like

You may want to include Exalted in the list separately. The 2nd Ed system was VERY different from any of the WoD or NWoD games, and the setting is a complete break from them. Plus, it would be interesting to see how many people play one and not the other.

Do Not Pass Go – Too Sexy for This Game

In my mind sexism (and many other "isms") is a big deal because it can be so easily accepted. I've known people I consider to be very thoughtful, open-minded, and sensitive, and been taken aback when I presented a female NPC only to have them ask for the "Hotness Factor." Beauty can be important...

    Gamehackery: Why Do You DM?

I GM because I love stories, and the best, the richest, the most engaging stories are the ones shared by friends. I GM because there may be a day when elves riding unicorns are not awesome, but it is not this day. I GM because there may be a day when halflings are silly wastes of time, BUT IT...

    Show us your Rat Bastardry!

I ran a demon-hunting game in which the one of the players was a shaman of Bat. Not only a shaman, also Bat's son. In their travels, they came across a colony of bats that had been warped into demon-touched monsters. Troubled, the shaman entered into the Shroud, where the totems dwell, and found...

The Empire of the Raven - Free RPG for Downloading

Oh, very cool. I read that game and was really impressed by it - I really liked the colonial-era feel of it. I'm glad you've got it to the point you're comfortable putting out to the masses. I will definitely check it out.

How medieval are your medieval(-ish) fantasy games?

I once wrote and ran a game which I tried to make pretty true to a medieval setting. Not sure how successful I was in that regard. In general, I don't know enough about the time period to do it well, and when I try I run the risk of players knowing more about "what it was actually like" than I...

Any low fantasy games out there? Need a change of pace!

If you can find the books, 7th Sea is a fantastic renaissance game about pirates, swashbuckling, and exploration. There is magic, but it is much more low-key than in most fantasy settings. And the monsters are at the fringes of the known world - deep in the dark woods, high in the mountains, and...

    illegal magic

In MERPS, magic is a potent source of corruption. Of course, in that setting it's because Sauron is out there trying to turn people to his will. But you could easily go the route of Power Corrupts. Looking at our own histories, "magic" was outlawed because of the Church's belief that it came...

    Do You Read This News?

Throwing in my two cents: I read it about every other day or so and I definitely enjoy it.

Looking for a non-D&D high fantasy roleplaying system

What about Mage, Dark Ages? I think it's one of the most engaging, creative magic systems out there, and you can use Bygone Bestiery to do all kinds of different races... of course, I'm pretty sure those are both out of print... But they're great games!

    Percentile Systems? Just Say No!

Thanks, I'll give Basic a look. I was actually going even more literal than that: you roll 50 on d%, and you've accomplished 50% of your task; you roll 68% and you've accomplished 100% of your task. Problem is, that would be such a random system, I can't think of how you would do it with any...

Looking for adventure/plot ideas for a single player assassin.

I think you're right: use it sparingly. And I wouldn't take a lot of time with it when you do. It's a different way to introduce a scene but if you use it too much or for too long it would lose its effectiveness.

    Percentile Systems? Just Say No!

And I just realized I shouldn't read these posts on my phone because sometimes I miss what people are saying and repeat them. HOURS LATER.

    Percentile Systems? Just Say No!

MERP uses d% and has both classes and levels. I assume Rolemaster does, too since that is what MERP is based on.

Looking for adventure/plot ideas for a single player assassin.

An idea I've toyed with, but never got far with, was to have players play some of the NPCs. I think for a solo game this could be very cool. If your player's target is a person of some import, have him first play the part of the target's butler going about some mundane issues, dealing with the...

    Percentile Systems? Just Say No!

I've always wanted to see some kind of system that uses percentile in its literal terms: 100% equals 100%, you've completely accomplished your goal. I don't know if it's possible, but if someone said they had put something like that together, I would want to check it out.

    The Thrills of Skills

I've been thinking a lot about skills recently. I'm working on a system in which the players give marks to the obstacles. It could be marks of bleeding (vs goblins) or progress (vs difficult terrain); there are nine kinds of marks total, three physical, three social, and three based on the...

The 7-Day RPG Contest [Voting is over!]

Well, OK, but should you really be telling us before revealing the final results? If it's me ... I'm not sure I would want folks to vote for me just because no one else had.
