Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

Moving on to other things. The A-A5 Speeder Truck for Rebel forces in Star Wars: Legion. I’m still working on an overall color scheme for this one and I’m leaning towards 1970s Chevy Van.

    In-Game Publications?

Bestiaries existed in medieval Europe centuries prior to Gutenberg's wonderful invention. There were all sorts of books circulating covering a wide variety of topics including courtly behavior, various crafts (painting, glass making, etc., etc.), medicine, and of course religious writings and...

    Shadowrun deserves better

It takes years to develop a game like Cyberpunk and there's no guarantee it'd be successful by the time it was released. Any Shadowrun game would be heavily compared to CP 2077 and if I were a studio I don't know if I'd take that kind of chance.

None taken at all. It’s okay to have a different preference.

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

It’s a funny thing how subjective tastes can be. The horns are the feature I’m most proud of on the larger dinosaur.

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

It isn’t that often I paint two miniatures that are so similar. The big one is a triceratops made by Pegasus Models I painted a few years ago. The smaller is a Reaper mini I painted a few days ago. I used the same colors, even the exact same Army Painter yellow,

Do you have a "litmus test" setting for generic rule sets?

My apologies. My sensibilities seem to have taken a leave of absence as I had forgotten how important it was to place a disclaimer on any statement of opinion I might make. Allow me to amend my statement as follows, "In my opinion..." Yeah. I understand SJG is reluctant to license out their...

Do you have a "litmus test" setting for generic rule sets?

Neither one does high powered supers particularly well. If I'm going to play a game where Spider-Man might swing through the neighborhood it isn't going to be GURPS or SW. If I were to use an analogy, Savage Words is like a thermostat I can set to around 75 degrees. GURPS is a pinpoint...

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

Something outrageously bright. Preferrably in metallics.

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

Oh, I see. I paint a dinosaur and suddenly you just happened to pick up a dinosaur man? I think jade and gold would make for nice colors. I could see jade or gold for the armor working equally well. You have a lot of interesting textures on that model to work with.

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

It’s dinosaur time. This is a Reaper Mini Thunderfoot Behemoth and it was only $16.

Do you have a "litmus test" setting for generic rule sets?

It's certainly true that GURPS has a pretty loyal group of core fans precisely because it provides them with exactly what they're looking for. While I prefer Savage Worlds over GURPS these days, I will readily GURPS is the superior universal game. You can do more with GURPS than you can Savage...

    Horror general thread [+]

There's an episode of the X-Files where a vampire is about to chow down on Mulder and he throws a bunch of sunflower seeds on the floor. The vampire says, "Aw, man," and starts to count them giving Mulder time to escape.

Do you have a "litmus test" setting for generic rule sets?

Savage Worlds has a somewhat different philosophy when it comes to adapting other settings to their game. GURPS is pretty hard line about translating skills, powers, and abilities into something that can be measured (in Imperial units of course). If you have a character from fiction, let's say...

Do you have a "litmus test" setting for generic rule sets?

The overwhelming amount of detail was the primary complaint my players had the last time I ran a GURPS campaign. "There's a skill for dropping?" That was back around 2005 or so. I actually think GURPS is arguably the best universal game system written to date. I cut my teeth on 3rd edition...

Do you have a "litmus test" setting for generic rule sets?

I didn't say being boring was the only reason it wasn't as popular. You're right, being out of style is another reason it isn't as popular as it used to be.

Do you have a "litmus test" setting for generic rule sets?

There's a reason the popularity of GURPS has plummetted over the years. Reading the core GURPS: Characters and GURPS: Campaigns is like reading a university level textbook. It's drier than toasted white bread without butter. It's so dry, when you crack open a GURPS book you automatically...

Do you have a "litmus test" setting for generic rule sets?

I approach universal games like GURPS or Savage Worlds with the belief that they're not necessarily the best at every genre. Savage Worlds has Realms of Cthulhu and given how broad skills are in the system I think you could do a credible Star Trek as well. In truth, though I love SW, I'd...

Faction Rules - What do we like?

Mainly what I'm looking for is how a faction ties into the game and affects how it is played. In Delta Green, the player characters are all members of a cabal within the federal bureaucracy of the United States dedicated to investigating, neutralizing, and covering up the supernatural. Delta...

    Shadowrun deserves better

When looking at things from the past, I think it's best to try to place them within the cultural context of when they were produced. That certainly doesn't mean we should excuse bigotry nor does it make the work immune from criticism. They tried, they got some things right, and they stumbled...
